2017 NCSPA Fall Conference

Invitation

Dear Colleagues,

The NCSPA Board and Fall Conference Committee invite you to participate in our 2017 Fall Conference, October 22-24, 2017 at the Durham Convention Center. The Conference theme is School Psychologists Collaborate and Communicate.

The conference committee has an incredible conference planned with a lot of opportunities for professional learning. On Sunday, there will be an option to hear from Dr. Joseph F. Kovaleski on the RtI approach to ensuring quality interventions and evaluating learning disabilities. This session would be great for your entire MTSS Implementation or Leadership Team, especially as DPI is beginning training with Module 3 (RtI approach to SLD) this fall.

The other option for Sunday will be with Dr. Bill Jenson, from the University of Utah, as he teaches us strategies to work with “tough kids.” His session will be attractive to not only school psychologists, but also school counselors, school social workers, administrators, and teachers.

On Monday and Tuesday, our learning opportunities will include sessions with Dr. Amanda VanDerHeyden, who will do a session on improving Core Math and another on MTSS implementation barriers. Dr. VanDerHeyden is a must for teachers, as she will also introduce her Spring Math online site. Additional sessions regarding preschool, mental health, gender diversity, executive functioning, ethics, threat assessment, concussion management, and much more are also available! We’re sorry you’ll have such a hard time choosing what to attend!

On Tuesday afternoon, but before you head home, grab some lunch and have one last discussion with a special interest group! We will be using facilitators from around the state to lead a discussion about a variety of topics that you want to discuss! These small groups will meet at a local restaurant, have a great meal, and talk shop! When you register for conference, let us know of some topics you might be interested in discussing!

Some other conference highlights to look forward to include our Advocacy Reception, sponsored by PAR, and an evening banquet and reception. We will have good food, awards, the raffle and other prizes, and dancing! You won’t want to miss it! Speaking of raffle, the charity the conference committee has chosen to support this year is Crayons2Calculators, a Durham “shop” that provides free school supplies to Durham County teachers. You can bring a bag of supplies for raffle tickets and/or buy them the traditional way.

Hurricane Matthew may have dampened our conference last year, but he definitely didn’t dampen our spirits! Join us in Durham, bring your school and district colleagues, and let’s show them how school psychologists really do collaborate and communicate!

See you soon,

Amy Ivey
