The Southwestern Fertilizer Conference, Inc. (SWFC) is an IRS-designated 501(c)(6) non-profit trade association, established in 1925, originally to host a fertilizer grade hearing for Texas, Oklahoma, Arkansas and Louisiana. With the introduction of dealer blending and liquid fertilizer in the 1950’s, interest in the grade hearing aspect of the conference waned. The fertilizer industry, however, continued to use the conference as an opportunity to maintain business relationships. It remained regionally focused until the 1980’s, when interest in and from other geographic areas drew wider participation. Attendance grew rapidly each year after that, mostly from word-of-mouth promotion, often expressed as “everyone is there because everyone is there.”
Today, “The Southwest,” as it is often referred to within the industry, is one of the largest and most prominent annual gatherings of fertilizer industry professionals in the world. The conference attracts upper-level management and sales personnel representing fertilizer manufacturers, distributors, brokers and dealers. Last year over 1,700 individuals from 46 states and 18 countries registered for the SWFC.
