Cosmic metals impact a wide range of astrophysics including the evolution of
stars, galaxies, and the ISM/CGM. The 2017 STScI Spring Symposium aims to
bring together both multi-wavelength and multi-discipline communities to
understand metal production, transport, evolution, and distribution. We
will highlight results from UV astronomy, which is now celebrating a first half
century of productivity, and strategize about the future use of HST, LUVOIR,
and JWST to ensure that the next half century of UV astronomy is as exciting as

We encourage all those wishing to participate in the 2017 Spring Symposium to submit an abstract for a talk or a poster. Talk abstracts and poster abstracts should be submitted for consideration on the Abstract Submission Form (https://goo.gl/forms/ETQN1h098OHe5uCf1). The abstract submission period begins on November 1, 2016 and closes on February 1, 2017. You will be notified by March 1st if your abstract has been accepted for presentation. If the conference is over-subscribed, some preference for admission will be given to those who have submitted an abstract.
The registration fee for the symposium will be $175 and will include breakfasts, mid-morning and afternoon breaks, and a welcome reception on Monday, April 24, 2017. Payment of the registration fee is not required to pre-register.
A banquet is planned for Wednesday, April 26th. The fee to attend the banquet is $60.00. The banquet fee is an additional fee and is not included in the registration fee. Seating is limited to 64 for this event.
Space permitting, symposium talks are open to astronomers from all local (Maryland and Washington, DC) institutions without registering. However, seating is not guaranteed in the auditorium without registering for the symposium. Locals attending the symposium are requested to refrain from partaking in the refreshments. Locals wishing to partake in the refreshments, including the welcome reception, will need to register and will receive a badge for admission after payment of the registration fee.
