2018 AuSPEN
Post-Conference Wrap...
"Just want to say thank you for organising AuSPEN this year.
Love the little touches – including the weekly reminder including
weather and transportation advice, and the app was fabulous.
I felt this is the best ‘stand-alone’ AuSPEN conference I have attended."
- Selena, Senior Clinical Dietitian
A big thank you to all the speakers, delegates and sponsors who came
and made AuSPEN 2018 such a fantastic conference.
Thursday 29 November...
Thursday kicked off with the pre-conference Paeds Symposium, Communications Workshops,
Beginners Workshop and ESPEN LLL courses. The sessions were engaging and informative and the
ESPEN LLL Exams were successfully completed using the newly introduced MyINTERACT App exam process.
Thank you to all who also attended the AuSPEN Annual General Meeting.
Friday 30 November...
Friday began with the Baxter Breakfast Symposium and then the morning
main plenary sessions were introduced with a very special operatic performance by Kawiti.
The morning sessions were educational and revealing. Then the sessions then
continued with the selected concurrent abstract oral presentations.
The afternoon sessions included the conference highlight of ‘The Great Debate’ which was not only
very interesting, but extremely entertaining, with great speakers going head to head debating
‘Evidence Based Practice is Achievable’ armed with loads of knowledge and humour.
Sydney Harbour Gala Dinner Boat Cruise...
Once the day’s sessions concluded, it was time to don the sailor’s hats and head to Sydney Harbour
for the Gala Dinner Boat Cruise. The evening was beautiful as the boat cruised along past the amazing
sights of the Sydney Harbour Bridge, Opera House and Luna Park, whilst delegates, speakers and
sponsors enjoyed drinks and canapés on the top deck before heading
below deck for dinner and great conversation.
Saturday 1 December...
Saturday morning began with the Fresenius Kabi Breakfast Symposium
featuring an expert presentation by Prof Loris Pironi.
Then onto the final day of sessions with the concurrent ICU and IBD Sessions,
the AuSPEN / PDNU Consumers Workshop and then the conference wound up
with the Hot Topics of the Day and the 2018 AuSPEN awards.

but also for sponsoring the Conference App and the Members' App which was
downloaded and used by the majority of delegates, which was great to see.
One final, massive thank you to all the speakers who came and presented at the conference, with
special mentions to our international keynote speakers, Marion Winkler and Alessandro Laviano, who
travelled great distances to come and share their wealth of knowledge with all our delegates.
