This event is closed. If you have any questions, please contact the planner directly.

The Army Educational Outreach Program’s (AEOP) Gains in the Education of Math and Science (GEMS) program is an extracurricular Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) education program that provides rising fifth through twelfth grade students and teachers hands-on learning experiences in a U.S. Army laboratory environment. Participating students work alongside high school and college-aged Near-Peer Mentors (NPMs), Resource Teachers (RTs) and Army scientists and engineers in the summer months. NPMs and RTs serve in a mentor and educator capacity throughout the program, empowering and enabling students to conduct real-world STEM projects at a U.S. Army laboratory alongside U.S. Army scientists and engineers.

Army laboratory coordinators select program participants (students, RTs and NPMs) based on a centralized application process. All candidates must apply online in order to be considered for the program. All program participants must be U.S. Citizens or Permanent Legal Residents and are eligible for an educational stipend. Participating students receive $100 per week. Selected NPMs and RTs receive a monthly summer payment based on their education and experience.

GEMS sessions (program level and topic, capacity, dates, age groups, etc.) may vary based on the Army site/location.

Please apply below and contact the U.S. Army GEMS Team at aeopgems@nsta.org with any questions about the application process.
