2018 MICHA Workshops

WEEK 1 - INTERNATIONAL WORKSHOP & FESTIVAL - June 17-24:  Workshop participants are professional actors, teachers, directors and choreographers. Committed students of performing arts may attend on the recommendation of a faculty member. Previous experience in the Chekhov Technique is not necessary in order to attend; typically, participants are split into three to four groups based on experience. A typical day begins with a warm-up followed by a morning and afternoon class. Evening events, such as performances and lectures, are sometimes scheduled.  Additional one-day optional Theatre of the Future/Open Space event is included on June 23rd.

Week 1 - The Pause - June 17-24: a retreat option. MICHA recognizes there are members of our community who would like to come together outside the structure of classes in the form of a retreat that supports independent study, group exploration, and informal conversation.  The retreat is self-organized by the participants. As such, it is an inexpensive option for those who do not seek instruction from the faculty but desire the community, archival resources, and support that MICHA provides. Offered parallel to our workshop program, The Pause is open to any returning participant with a 2018 MICHA membership. Additionally, you may elect to participate in group morning warm-ups, afternoon guided rest and selected evening performances or lectures. Also, one-day optional Theatre of the Future/Open Space event is included on June 23rd.

WEEK 2 - TEACHER TRAINING WORKSHOPS & LABS - June 24-29:  Basic Teacher Training Workshop - MICHA offers teachers an opportunity to study the elements of the Michael Chekhov technique in a focused small group learning environment. Advanced Teacher Training Workshop - by application only, limited to 10 teacher participants; participants create and teach a 45 minute workshop lesson based on aspects of the Chekhov technique. The teachers then receive facilitated feedback from MICHA faculty observers and peers.  Teachers with experience and already established Chekhov tools and vocabulary are welcome to apply for the Advanced Teacher Training Workshop (send an email to Rebecca Rich: inquiries@michaelchekhov.org and request application). Applications due by January 15; placement communicated by February 15, 2018. Additional one-day optional Theatre of the Future/Open Space event is included on June 23rd; early arrival/overnight stay from June 23rd-June 24th will accrue a $50 fee.  NOTE: If you want to attend the Teacher Training workshop as a participant, regardless of acceptance into the Advanced workshop, we strongly encourage you to register (with non-refundable deposit) for the Basic workshop as soon as registration opens in November.  The cost of the workshops is identical.  Our Teacher Training workshops tend to fill to capacity. If you are accepted into the Advanced workshop, we will gladly edit your registration details to reflect the change.

Week 2 -Laboratory - June 24-29: As a participant in the LAB, each day you will choose where to you spend your time from the three labs -
SCHOLAR Lab - Kristi Dana will lead the scholar lab investigating the intersection of the Miller Voice Method with the Michael Chekhov Technique. Kristi will hold open studio hours for the purposes of practical exploration.
DIRECTOR Lab - Megan Schy Gleeson will lead the Director's lab. Participants who are enrolled in the LAB can choose to work with the director on a specific text or project.
ATT STUDENT RESPONDER Lab- Participants in the Advanced Teacher Training will present 45minute classes. As a LAB student, you have the opportunity to take part in these classes as students, and/or observe or participate in the feedback sessions.
NOTE: Attendance as a LAB participant does NOT count towards MICHA's Certificate of Completion.

Week 2 - The Pause - June 24-29: a retreat option.  Same concept as details mentioned in Week 1 Pause above.

For all MICHA-related events, we recommend you wear clothing suitable for movement classes.
Additional one-day optional Theatre of the Future/Open Space event is included on June 23rd; early arrival/overnight stay from June 23rd-June 24th will accrue a $50 fee.
