Accent Your Quilts with Creative Cords  (W09D)
    Teacher: Kathie Kerler
    Class Length: full Day Wednesday
    Skill Level: All
    $100 member / $120 non-member
Add punch, whimsy, or a touch of elegance with cords customized for your quilts. Cords are especially effective in a border treatment or edge finish but can also be incorporated into the body of a quilt. As a graduate of London City and Guilds design and embroidery programs, I learned a tremendous number of hand and machine cord-making techniques. During a six-hour class, spend half of the time on hand made cords, such as twisted and round cords, while the second half on machine made cords featuring a variety of fibers and threads.

The pictured quilt was made with all solid fabrics, but a different look will be achieved by using prints. It's your choice! This is very much an exercise in letting go of precision piecing! It helps if participants bring a sense of play. This workshop is meant to be FUN!

    Teacher: Jodi Robinson
Class Length: half Day Thursday (morning)
    Skill Level: Intermediate
    $48 member / $58 non-member
Let me show you a fun way to create unique designs that are so versatile you can use them as background fills, in borders and blocks, and as feature designs in large areas of negative space. By marking a basic "Tilework" layout (think: straight grid, circular grid, triangles, mosaic, and more), then filling in areas with multiple freehand designs, you will create designs that are unique to you! You will see how endless the options are when you discover how many creative options you have. You can choose to have "grout" lines between your tiles if you like (or not), and then decide if you will quilt them, leave them un-quilted, or fill them with a design. All of these creative options allow you to determine the textural effects your design will provide. For Hands on class students should bring their favorite ruler for stitching straight lines, a small curved ruler may also be helpful. I will have some rulers available for use in class if you do not have one.

    Skill Level: Intermediate
    $100 member / $120 non-member
What fun you're going to have in this class – which is one of Kimberly's newest workshops! You'll only need to do a little prep work before class to be ready to spend the day learning new techniques, trying out the ease of the Accuquilt GO! cutter, and sewing a stunning, modern variation of a Dresden plate quilt. Have you ever wanted to use the Accuquilt GO! cutter to see how it really works? You'll get the opportunity to use it first-hand to see just how easy it is to use the GO! cutter effectively (GO! cutters and dies are provided for use in class) to cut your pieces quickly and oh-so accurately. After your fabrics are cut, Kimberly will teach you her magical machine applique techniques to turn the most basic utility stitches on the sewing machine into pretty, decorative stitch effects. She'll also teach you her signature "stacked stitching" technique for a fabulous final flourish to your Dresden appliques. You'll have fun using the GO! cutter and accomplish so much!

Do you ever find yourself stuck in a rut when trying to come up with new quilting designs? I know I do! I want to share with you a method that I have found works really well for me, in sparking new ideas. We will start with one shape, in this case a Hexagon. We will work on block and border ideas, as well as background fills and allover designs. I will show you how easy it is to create new designs using just the basic shape alone, mixing different sizes, and using only portions of a shape. The really fun thing is that some of the designs don't even look like they were made with a hexagon. You will definitely leave this class with your creativity flowing!
