2018 Quilter of the Year Mary Chalmers

Throughout the years Mary Chalmers has entered numerous national, state, and local quilt shows and has won more thanr a hundred awards. At the American Quilt Society Show in Paducah, Kentucky, she won first place in 2015 in the category of quilting on a home machine, second place in 2010 on a wool quilt, and honorable mention in 1995 on a white whole cloth quilt named "Snow Dance". She also won third place at the AQS Show in Des Moines and Best Embellishment at the Mid Atlantic Show for her "Vestments" quilts. Mary’s quilts were in the AQS Quilt Engagement Calendar and her embroidery technique for wool quilts was written up in an article in the AQS magazine in 2010.

Mary Chalmers was born, raised, and currently lives in Minnesota. She pieces and quilts her own quilts using a variety of techniques that started with scrappy quilts in the 70’s and evolved to her current interest in creating wool quilts. For many years Mary has taught machine quilting classes and machine trapunto classes and presented trunk shows throughout the area. She is extremely generous using her time and knowledge to promote quilting in Minnesota. We are proud to honor Mary!
