Due to its sophisticated nature, Buenos Aires delights all visitors with its creativity.  At tis elegant shopping centers, its fancy avenues, its old neighborhoods converted into design centers coexist the most remarkable international trademarks with products of talented local designers and craftsmen.  Shopping in Buenos Aires is an adventure.  Travelers will not only find what they are looking for, but more!

In downtown, Florida Street is the first place chosen by tourists to do their shopping.  From San Martin Square to Corrientes Avenue, it is full of stores that mostly specialize in authentic Argentine leather.

You can see why Buenos Aires was declared a "Design City" by UNESCO.

What are the best souvenirs to buy in Buenos Aires?

Leather goods are a popular momentos from Argentina - handbag, wallet, jacket or boots.

A mate gourd and straw is another option for a uniquely local souvenir.  Mate is the caffeinated loose leaf tea Argentines drink all day every day.

One tasty souvenir is dulce de leche, which is like a creamier version of caramel.

Fileteado Class

buenos-aires

Fileteado is a type of artistic drawing, with stylized lines, flowers and plants typically used in Buenos Aires, Argentina.  It is used to adorn all kinds of beloved objects:  signs, taxis, even old colectivos (Buenos Aires buses).

Filetes (the line in fileteado  style) are usually full of colored ornaments and symmetries completed with poetic phrases and sayings, both humorous, emotional or philosophical.  They have been a part of the culture of the Portenos (inhabitants of Buenos Aires) since the beginning of the 20th Century.

During this class we will design a Fileteado of our own name to take back home.

Reception and Dinner at The Tunnels - El Zanjon de Granados

One of the more unique places in Buenos Aires is this amazing urban architectural site.  A series of old tunnels (built from 1730 onwards) were constructed above a river tributary and provided the base for one of Buenos Aires's oldest settlements, which later became a family mansion and then tenement housing and some shops.

The Zanjon is the realized dream of Jorge Eckstein, who found these ruins in 1986 after purchasing land for a business project and then spent years renovating them into what you see today.  It offers a fascinating glimpse into the city's history; meticulously reconstructed brick by brick and very attractively lit, this site also contains several courtyards and even a watchtower  There are a few relics on display in the various halls and rooms, but the highlights are the spaces themselves.

Evita Museum & Tango Class

Argentina's iconic first lady and wife of President Juan Domingo Peron has this fine museum devoted to her.  Housed in a gorgeous 1923 mansion that from 1948 belonged to Eva Peron's social foundation, Museo Evita celebrates the Argentine heroine with videos, historical photos, books and posters.  However, the prize memorabilia has to be her wardrobe:  dresses, shows, handbags, hats and blouses are all on display.  Look for the picture of her kicking soccer ball - in heels.

Tango Class

Tango is a partner dance that originated in the 1880s along the River Plata, the natural border between Argentina and Uruguay, and soon spread to the rest of the world.

Argentine Tango is a partner dance that developed over the last century in Argentina's capital city, Buenos Aires.  It is very different from the Tango in International and American ballroom dancing.  Argentine Tango is an interpretive, improvisational social dance that allows the dancers to develop a deep connection between themselves, the music, and the environment in which they are dancing.

Full Day Group Tour:

La Aguada

It's Polo Day!  Argentina leads the way in Polo because the people there are obsessed with the game.  There's a culture of horses in the country and that is why Polo became so popular.  The game could have been invented for Argentina's vast, fertile, lowland grass plains, known as the Pampas or Pampa.  The natural conditions of the land makes breeding polo horses easy.  Unlike other sports such as football and rugby, which are dominated by global sportwear brands, most of the businesses that keep polo going in Argentina are small, often family-run companies.

Today we are guests of the Novillo Astrada brothers, well-known in Argentina, at La Aguada their private, family owned farm with the best players in the world on the best grounds and ponies available in Argentina.

We begin our day with a Polo Clinic, followed by a Polo Match and an Asado Criollo (Argentine BBQ) with a Gaucho show.

Gaucho, the nomadic and colorful horseman and cowhand of the Argentine and Uruguayan Pampas (grasslands), who flourished from the mid 18th to the mid 19th century and have remained folk heros similar to the cowboy in western North America.
