Seminar Language: English

Robert GonzalesTrainer: Robert Gonzales (USA)

Robert has contributed to the work of the International Center for Nonviolent Communication as a Certified Trainer, serving as a Certification Assessor, and as former President of the Board of Directors. He continues to serve as a trainer for International Intensive Trainings (IITs). He was one of the co-founders of the NVC Training Institute. In the year 2000, he established the Prescott Center for Nonviolent Communication. In June 2010, he relocated to Portland, Oregon and re-formed the organization to the Center for Living Compassion, a nonprofit organization through which he shares his work. As the director of the Center for Living Compassion, he conducts seminars and retreats internationally.

Robert's work, Living Compassion has emerged from a lifetime of inquiry into the intersection between spirituality and human communication. His primary influences include Dr. Marshall Rosenberg (founder of Nonviolent Communication) and Stephen Schwartz (creator of Compassionate Self-Care). His trainings offer ways to cultivate daily practices for living life fully, grounded in compassion for one’s self and others. The integration of self-compassion and compassionate communication is at the heart of his work.

Gina LawrieTrainer: Gina Lawrie (United Kingdom)

Gina lives in Dorset, UK. She has been a certified trainer since 1997 and integrated NVC into her practice as a consultant, coach and trainer in both personal and organisational change and development. Being a facilitator of Open Space (OST), she recognized the synergy between OST and NVC and facilitated the first two giraffe conventions as well as other events since then. She may be best known in the NVC community for co-creating the NVC Dance Floors with Bridget Belgrave. This innovative method for sharing and practicing NVC is now translated into ten languages - http://www.nvcdancefloors.com.

Gina has worked internationally, introducing NVC to Australia, Singapore and New Zealand. She is an experienced assessor for certification with CNVC, and has trained on previous IIT's both with and without Marshall. She also serves on the IIT Resource Team, set up to support the integrity of IIT’s. From 2007 to 2012 Gina was a trainer with the NVC Training Institute, a collaboration of six trainers who offered in-depth residential retreats "Living Energy of Needs" worldwide. www.ginalawrie.co.uk

Trainer: Roxy ManningRoxy Manning, Ph.D.(USA) a licensed clinical psychologist and CNVC certified trainer, is also a member of the Implementation Council for CNVC. She has served as lead trainer for several of BayNVC’s yearlong programs and is co-founder and trainer for the past 11 years at the Nonviolent Leadership for Social Justice Retreat. Roxy has been using NVC in her psychotherapy practice since 2003 and has been formally teaching NVC since 2005. She also works as a psychologist with the city and county of San Francisco’s Disability Evaluation and Consultation Unit serving the homeless and disenfranchised mentally ill population. In addition to supporting clinicians and others seeking to improve their ability to serve individuals from diverse backgrounds, Roxy has worked directly with programs and people advancing individual and social change nationally and internationally. She's always excited to discuss how we can use NVC to transform the experiences of people with less structural power in their society and to explore ways to have dialogue and action informed by NVC that holds the fierce commitment to actively showing up to create the Beloved Community. Her website is www.manning.learnnvc.org.

Carl PlesnerTrainer: Carl Plesner (Denmark)

Carl is passionate about ending acts of violence through supporting people to practice NVC based dialogue facilitation, crisis negotiation and reconciliation. He has been a certified trainer since 2013 and has primarily worked in the field using NVC in places of violent conflict. His core expertise is to establish a frame of dialogue in which people can recover, restore and maintain their sense of dignity as humans in the aftermath of destructive and painful conflict.
Carl also brings with him the tools he has learned from the sphere of Crisis Negotiation to continue moving forward toward peace when roadblocks such as demands, aggression and unilateral use of violence disable peaceful dialogue. He draws on his experience in facilitating peaceful dialogues from many diverse groups – from young school-aged children in the school yard to street gangs in the suburbs of Copenhagen; domestic violence; including politicians, police, civilians, rebels and military fighting each other in Ukraine.
For several years Carl has worked for the Danish police as a mediator and as a Dialogue Facilitation Officer for the diplomatic OSCE mission in the war zone in Ukraine. Today he is lead trainer of the School of Peace Engineers in Ukraine - a full-time, one year programme to support people in the mission of bringing peace to their war torn country.

Shona CameronTrainer/ Assessor: Shona Cameron - UK

Shona spent over 10 years bringing NVC into schools working with parents, students and whole school teams while working within the education system. Now sharing NVC full time she supports others to integrate NVC and get better and better at sharing NVC, whether through trainings or through projects. She is well known for her clarity, warmth and humour. Shona continues to bring all her psychological training to supporting the growth of individuals and the growth of NVC. She is most at home on the sofa reading a book but also loves collaborating in NVC teams and travelling to new places She is a member of the English Speaking European Assessment Team (ESEAT). A warm welcome to you all for this, the second time that Woodbrooke will open its doors and heart as our home together for the 9 days of an IIT. Woodbrooke is Europe’s only Quaker Study Centre - offering an oasis of tranquility 15 minutes from Birmingham city centre. Woodbrooke’s grounds extend to ten acres of woodlands, lawns, lake and walled garden which surround the impressive Georgian mansion which was donated by George Cadbury to the Quakers in 1903 as a place for study and contemplation. Our IIT community will be stewarded by a wealth of staff and volunteers alongside quaker interns in an environment where quaker values and principles of nonviolence have been practiced and lived for many years.
Woodbrooke includes a library, a silent room, a bright and airy garden lounge and dining hall and numerous group rooms of all sizes. Bedrooms, spread over several buildings are comfortable and homely. Depending on numbers some people may stay at the nearby ‘Beeches’ hotel.

All our meals will be well tended and catered for. Any particular needs, such as gluten or dairy ‘free’ will be supported. Woodbrooke offer organic ingredients where possible and fruit and vegetables from the grounds are included ‘in season’. Please do connect with Gayano directly to enquire or raise any questions about this as needed. All arrangements for the possibility of coming with young ones will be agreed on a per-family basis through connection and dialogue with Gayano in the first instance - do reach out and begin to explore if this is relevant to you! welcome@iit-woodbrooke.co.uk

Woodbrooke and our living World:
Everything that Woodbrooke does in relation to the environment and sustainability is informed by two guidelines from Quaker Faith and Practice: i) Try to live simply. A simple lifestyle freely chosen is a source of strength. ii) We do not own the world, and its riches are not ours to dispose of at will. Show a loving consideration for all creatures, and seek to maintain the beauty and variety of the world. Work to ensure that our increasing power over nature is used responsibly, with reverence for life.
