Summary

The Mid-Career Women Faculty Leadership Development Seminar is a three-and-a-half-day seminar designed for women holding medical school appointments at the associate professor level, and holding leadership positions within their discipline, department, or institution. Generally, this seminar is designed for women faculty who have been in academic medicine/science between 8-15 years, ideally with at least 1-2 years elapsed since their appointment in this rank. Applicants should have a significant amount of experience in academic medicine and demonstrated leadership ability, either in formal administrative or other leadership roles. *Assistant professors and full professors may be considered based on experience.

The goal of the seminar is to enhance the knowledge and skills necessary to support progress along the path to leadership in academic medicine and science. The seminar covers organizational leadership topics and skills specifically relevant for mid-career faculty such as sponsorship, negotiation, funding the academic mission, resilience and well-being, and communication and influence; which, are central to effective collaboration and leadership in various mission-critical activities. Participants will benefit from a combination of general sessions and small group self-selected breakout sessions, providing the ability to tailor the seminar to their specific learning needs and interests.

Learning Objectives:

  • Visualize potential paths to leadership, and develop career plans to advance toward that vision.
  • Expand your network of mentors and colleagues in academic medicine and science.
  • Acquire the tools and skills necessary for leading teams toward improved organizational and individual performance.

The personalized curriculum and interactivity of the seminar will help participants expand their network, employ strategies for career and leadership development, and brainstorm ways to advance women in academic medicine and science.

This year’s seminar will take place at the Ritz-Carlton New Orleans in New Orleans, Louisiana.

The online application period will begin Monday, August 5, 2019 and close on Tuesday, September 10, 2019 (11:59 pm Eastern Time). Late applications will not be accepted.
