Traffic Incident Management System (TIMS) Track

The Tennessee Department of Transportation (TDOT) opened the Tennessee Traffic Incident Management (TIM) Training Facility in October 2014

The facility features a section of interstate-like roadway ranging from two to six lanes with guardrail, a two-way interchange, and cable and steel barrier rail, as well as a section of two-lane highway and a full four-way intersection.  The design provides an area to simulate a variety of crashes, allowing emergency responders to train on safe and efficient techniques for clearing major highway incidents.

The training site concept, which is the first of its kind in the nation, was introduced to TDOT by Tennessee Highway Patrol (THP) Colonel Tracy Trott. The training site is located on land adjacent to the THP Training Center off Stewarts Ferry Pike in Nashville. TDOT applied for and received federal Highway Safety Improvement Project funds, which covered 90% of the $912,025.05 cost to build the facility.

Flood Wall Site Visit (Opryland Area)

In May 2010, a “1,000 year rant event” pummeled Nashville, Tennessee. More than 13 inches fell in two days, causing the Cumberland River to rise to the elevation of a 400-year flood and overtop a flood protection system. The flood caused nine deaths, destroyed or damaged thousands of homes, and caused more than $2 billion in damages in the city. Floodwaters inundated the historic Grand Ole Opry House, 800,000 square feet of the 4 million-square-foot Gaylord Opryland Resort and Convention Center, and most of the back-office facilities owned by Ryman Hospitality Properties Inc., which was then operating under the name of Gaylord Entertainment Company.
 
In 2012, Ryman Hospitality Properties completed construction on a combined $17 million perimeter flood protection system around the hotel and the Opry House, to protect the 100-plus-acre site from another monumental flood. The large flood wall, which stands 10 feet tall in some places, is built of brick and concrete; the barrier system is completed with aluminum planks stored on the property that groundskeepers can install quickly to stop water from coming through pedestrian and vehicle gates. The new wall was built on top of a previous flood protection system constructed to a 100-year event standard following a 1975 flood. The owners reached out to the public to help alleviate fears that the flood wall could adversely affect surrounding properties.

2:00 PM - Begin flood wall tour covering entire length of flood wall with discussion on the flood event, impacts to the area, and design/construction of wall. The group will then go to the Opry House area for a tour of the wall, as well as, discussion on the impacts and renovation to the building resulting from the flood event, including a brief tour of the Opry House.

3:15 PM - Load buses and depart Opryland

4:15 PM - Drop attendees to Marriott.


Cancellation Policy:  Cancellation requests are subject to a $125 processing fee. Requests for refunds may be submitted through CVENT for quicker processing or in writing to kcrawford@cmc-associates.com by Friday, July 12, 2019. No requests for refunds will be granted after Friday, July 12, 2019.  No shows, those who register but do not attend the meeting, will not be refunded. 

If registration fees are not paid in full, as well as, registration cancelled by Friday, July 12, 2019, you will be responsible for paying the applicable cancellation processing fee of $125. Additionally, if registration fees are not paid in full and a cancellation has not been received by event start date, AASHTO will invoice you for the full registration amount. Therefore, we encourage you to send someone from your organization in your place.

Substitution Policy: Substitutions are allowed at any time and we encourage you to send someone from within your organization in your place should you not be available to attend.
