Sessions

Session #1 – Tack Coat Application
Proper tack coat application is a vital component of the paving process and has a significant impact on the long-term performance of asphalt pavements.  This session, presented jointly by INDOT and industry, will educate field personnel on proper application to maximize bonding between asphalt layers.  Recent approved revisions to INDOT Standard Specifications Section 406 – Tack Coat will also be discussed.

Presenters:  Nathan Awwad – INDOT; Marvin Exline – The Heritage Group; Brian Crume – E&B Paving

Session #2 – Laboratory Testing
This session is targeted to INDOT, consultant, and contractor asphalt technicians to review proper testing procedures and techniques.  Correct and consistent laboratory testing is fundamental to INDOT’s QC/QA system, and INDOT and industry presenters will review best practices for various asphalt tests.  Specifically, presenters will do a deep-dive into fine and coarse aggregate specific gravity AASHTO tests T84 and T85 for Gsb calculations.

Presenters:  Harley Phillips – INDOT; Cartia Martin – INDOT; Elizabeth Pastuszka – E&B Paving; Brad Cruea – Milestone Contractors

Session #3 – Community Crossings Guide
APAI, in collaboration with INDOT and LTAP, has developed a guide to assist cities and towns with Community Crossings requirements, from procurement through construction. This session will walk you through how to use each component of the guide – which includes design and construction recommendations, application instructions, bid form template, tools to advertise and award, and example contract – resulting in better bids and higher quality asphalt projects.
