Summary

AAMC looks forward to welcoming you to
Atlanta
April 4-6, 2019

Join your colleagues at the only professional development conference designed exclusively for Council of Faculty and Academic Societies (CFAS) representatives. CFAS advances academic medicine from a faculty perspective, addressing the issues important to clinicians, scientists, educators, and leaders. No other meeting brings together as diverse a range of specialties and disciplines to talk about the issues that challenge today’s academic health center faculty.

AAMC also relies on its CFAS representatives to be the voice of faculty within the association’s governance and leadership structures. This is your opportunity to have your voice heard and to help drive the direction of the organization.

Whether you are a new or returning CFAS representative, the 2019 CFAS Spring Meeting is a must-attend event. Not only will you personally gain from the program, but the lessons learned are meant to be shared with the faculty you represent, and you will be provided with tools to help achieve that goal.

This year’s program will include three topical plenaries, interactive workshops, and Ignite-style breakout sessions called “Spark” sessions. It also will include an AAMC leadership update, a business meeting, and our traditional open-mic knowledge sharing session.

Plenary topics include:

  • Addressing Sexual Harassment in Academic Medicine
  • Hot topics in Bioethics and Health Policy
  • Preparing Faculty for Changes in Medical Education

To build upon the plenary offerings, two of these plenary topics will have thematically related “Spark” sessions to explore the issues in more details – one on sexual harassment, and the other on medical education.

Workshops, a first for CFAS based on your feedback in past meeting evaluations, will include programming on community engagement, global health, unconscious bias, and science education.

Understanding the Conference Schedule:

  • CFAS committees will meet in two cohorts on April 4 at 8:30 a.m. and 9:45 a.m. (Learn more about the committees.)

  • A session on how to be a better CFAS representative will take place April 4 at 12:30 p.m.

Making Your Case to Attend:
We want to arm you with the resources you need to secure your institution’s approval to attend this conference. It is important to convey the benefits of the conference—both to you and to your institution. The plenary sessions and the themes are designed to be broadly appealing across academic medicine. If you would like suggestions for making the case or if you have questions about the program that will help you, please reach out to Eric Weissman.

We look forward to seeing you in Atlanta!
