Governor's Excellence in Housing and Economic Development Awards

On behalf of the New Jersey Department of Community Affairs, the New Jersey Housing and Mortgage Finance Agency, the New Jersey Economic Development Authority and the New Jersey Redevelopment Authority, we invite you to submit nominations for the 2019 Governor's Conference on Housing and Economic Development Awards.

The goal of the Governor's Excellence in Housing and Economic Development Awards is to recognize projects and professionals that are on the cutting edge of innovation in the fields of affordable housing and economic development. This year's categories were selected to reflect current community needs and challenges.

The awards will be presented at the Governor's Conference on Housing and Economic Development on Tuesday, September 17, 2019.

Submission Requirements and Deadline

Each entry must consist of the nomination form, the entry narrative and visual aids. Please submit the nomination as one comprehensive PDF document.
1Nomination Form: Cover form for nominations. Each entry must provide contact information for a person who can be reached regarding the nomination.

2. Entry Narrative: Maximum of three single-spaced, typed pages, text only, with one-inch margins and 11-point minimum size font. The entry narrative should explain how the submission fulfills each of the category’s evaluation criteria.  The name of the project should appear on the top right-hand corner of each page.

3. Visual Aids: Visual aids such as project images, news articles, and marketing materials may be submitted to support the nomination. 

  • Images: Up to 10 images can be submitted. Images should illustrate various aspects of the project. For example, before and after results, exteriors from a variety of angles, interior shots, community revitalization, green features, etc.


Projects must have been placed in service between January 1, 2017 and May 24, 2019.     

Proof of project being placed in service must be included.


All entries must be submitted online by close of business on Friday, May 24, 2019.

How to Submit Your Award Nomination

Nominations are to be submitted online only, using the new 2019 Governor’s Conference Awards Portal.

Using the Awards Portal, you will be able to upload your nomination, no matter the size, in a private and secure folder online.

NOTE: As there is a brief waiting period between registering your account and having access to an online submission folder, we recommend registering early to avoid any delay in your award submission.


1. Go to:  https://2019ghcawards.njeda.com

2Click on Register

3. Enter your email address and click on “Request a Verification Link.”

4. You will receive an email from the Awards Portal Administrator. 
Click on the link in your email to activate your account. 

5. You will be prompted to create a username and password. 
Then click on “create account.”

6. A message will notify you that your access is awaiting approval by the Portal Administrator. 

7. Once the administrator approves your access, you will receive a confirmation email. 
Click the link in the email to access the folder to upload your award nomination. 
The folder name will be the same as your username. 

8. Click on “+” to upload your nomination. 
Upload your award nomination to the folder as one comprehensive PDF document.
