Former New York City Fire Department (FDNY) Chief Richard Picciotto Announced as Keynote Speaker

Chief Richard Picciotto is the highest ranked firefighter to survive the Sept. 11, 2001 terrorist attacks on the World Trade Center. As the FDNY chief and battalion commander in Lower Manhattan on 9/11, he and his fellow firefighters selflessly rushed into the World Trade Center to rescue those inside and prevent further loss. A decorated leader, Chief Picciotto has served as a former New York City police officer, fire marshal, arson investigator and lieutenant. He is also the author of New York Times bestseller “Last Man Down: A Firefighter’s Story of Survival and Escape from the World Trade Center.”

In a moving and riveting speech, Chief Picciotto will put this historical event into perspective, providing valuable insights on how to effectively lead teams through crises and significant challenges. Through a captivating testimonial, he will recount his experiences on that day and those following, reflecting on how he applied lessons learned throughout his career as an accomplished leader to take on the most difficult tasks. His presentation will offer valuable lessons on leadership, preparation and quick decision-making that will prove applicable to challenges, large and small, for damage prevention professionals and emergency responders from across our industry. 

Chief Picciotto will kick off the 2019 Midwest Damage Prevention Training Conference with his presentation the morning of Thursday, Nov. 7.
