2019 MTA Ethnic Minority Affairs Committee Conference

Summary

Please join us for the 40th Anniversary MTA Ethnic Minority Affairs Committee (EMAC) Conference being held at the Four Points By Sheraton Norwood on December 6 and 7. This year’s special conference, themed Education, Love, Justice, will honor EMAC’s past and look to a future in which love — of teaching, of public education, of racial and social justice — plays a central role in our schools, colleges and communities.

The 40th anniversary conference will feature engaging programming, including workshops, panel discussions, entertainment by MTA members and more. Workshops will cover topics such as “Becoming an Ally in the Fight for Racial Justice” and “Decolonizing Our Minds: Expanding the Dominant Narrative to Include First Nations.” The program will also include a keynote speech by Durryle Brooks, Ph.D., on bringing love back into the social justice conversation.

NEW THIS YEAR: CHILD CARE! We’re offering child care at this event so your kids can have a great time playing games, doing arts and crafts and participating in other fun activities while you attend dinner on Friday evening and workshops on Saturday. This service will be provided by ACCENT on Children's Arrangements — the same provider NEA engages for its events. The cost for this program is $15 per day per family. You may sign up for these services when you register.
