Nice, France

Dear Friends and Colleagues,

It is with great pleasure that I would like to invite you to join me in Nice, in the Cote D’Azur, France for the 117th Annual meeting of the New York Section of the American Urological Association.  The reason for the selection of this beautiful part of Europe was inspired by my childhood experiences and memories that my extended family and I have amassed from our numerous visits there.   Nice is the epicenter of the French Riviera or the Cote d’Azur.  It is strategically located between the iconic Principality of Monaco to the east and the beautiful city of Cannes in the west.   The region combines a perfect blend of natural and scenic beauty with that of culture, cuisine and art.  It is also a region steeped in tradition, rich in history and of course glowing with glamour.

The meeting will be based at Le Palais de la Mediterranee; a 5 star landmark hotel located conveniently on the iconic Promenade des Anglais that spans the length of the seaboard and beach in Nice.   It is a 15-minute ride from the international airport.  It is also within walking distance to many key spots in the city.   Located one block away from the pedestrian only street, Rue Massena with its multitude of shopping and dining options and Le Vieux Nice (old Nice), it provides a convenient setting for our meeting.   This full amenity hotel boasts an excellent conference center, modern spacious rooms and a private beach right across the promenade!

I am very excited about the various tours and excursions planned.   The details of these tours are provided on the website but include a walking tour of Nice and old Nice and wine tasting right in city at the famous prewar wine cellar Cave Pierre Bianchi.   We have organized a group tour to Monaco and dinner in Cap d’Ail, a visit to the medieval village of Eze with visits to the famous Fragonard Perfumerie there and a walking tour of the citadel.  Of course no trip to the French Riviera is complete without a visit to Cannes, the site of the famous International film festival and its iconic main strip with its opulence and abundance of high end shopping opportunities.  Therefore, our full day Wednesday trip consists of a visit to Cannes for shopping in the morning followed by a trip in the afternoon to the beautiful medieval fortified village of St. Paul de Vence.  In between we will dine at the 2 Michelin star rated Alain Llorca restaurant terrace with panoramic views of St. Paul de Vence and the valley beneath.  We will visit the beautiful village of Villefranche and dine at Le Mer Germaine, a historic venue.   We will cap our social agenda with our Gala at the Villa Ephrussi de Rothschild in Cap Ferrat with its beautiful gardens and elegant glamorous interior.

Spouse and guest activities include, biking in Cap Ferrat, visits to the Chagal and Matisse museums, the gardens of Menton, perfume creation in the Fragonard Perfumerie and Aquarelle, a water coloring painting class with a local artist.

We cap our French experience with a post trip to the beautiful and historic city of Bordeaux and its famous wine region.

The Scientific Program will be coordinated by Dr. Jaspreet Sandhu our senior scientific advisor with our co-scientific chairmen, Drs. Jonathan Coleman and Lee Richstone.  This promises to be a superb scientific meeting with unique program elements, including lectures and interactive sessions covering all key areas of Urology and public health policy.  We anticipate a strong European presence both as faculty and also as meeting participants.

Our section is steeped in tradition and our history is rich with memorable meetings and venues, which have been superbly organized.   This promises to be another fabulous scientific meeting, in a beautiful venue and in an attractive part of the world.  I look forward to your participation in what promises to be a unique and memorable New York Section meeting.  I personally will guarantee it!

Warm regards,

Reza Ghavamian, MD

President-Elect
