She started her career in Public Accounting at one of the Big Four firms, experienced a traditional controller role at an oilfield services company, and directed an internal audit function at a financial services Company prior to her journey as an entrepreneur.

Jo is now the President of Audit. Consulting. Education. LLC – a firm that provides progressive Internal Audit strategies and process and control improvements for companies within almost every industry.

She also teaches our next generation of Accountants at three colleges/universities in Colorado, and recently published a book on her trademarked approach to Internal Audit, entitled Total Quality Audit: How a Total Quality Mindset Can Help Internal Audit Add Real Value. Her favorite “wing” of her business, though, is her CPE training and admittedly providing her internet-based CPE’s - including her virtual “CPE Book Club” webinars - in her pajamas from her house in the country. Kevin O'Brien is an associate professor in the Department of Business Ethics and Legal Studies in the Daniels College of Business at the University of Denver. He earned his accounting and law degrees from the University of Denver and an advanced degree in taxation from New York University. He also served as a revenue agent for the Internal Revenue Service. His research interests include professional ethics for lawyers, CPAs and executives, professional codes of conduct, whistle blowing, and Sarbanes-Oxley compliance. Professor O'Brien teaches principally Accounting Ethics that analyzes key executive and professional decisions by CPAs from both an ethical and legal perspective as well as Business Law for Accountants. He also teaches Executive Business Law for the EMBA program and currently serves on the Audit and Compliance Committee of Centura Health.

In that role, he served as the registered Compliance Officer for WU’s money transfer entities in Australia and New Zealand. She served as an integral member of the financial restatement team for Freddie Mac. Steve is the retired Vice President - Internal Audit for United Airlines. He served as CAE in the airline industry for over 25 years (Eastern, Continental and United).

He was the 2006-2007 Chairman of the Board for the IIA. Steve served on its Executive Committee for 6 years and the global Board for 7 years. Steve was an inaugural class inductee for the IIA’s American Hall of Distinguished Audit Practitioners, and a Victor Brink recipient.

Steve is a member of the Southern Illinois University (SIU) Foundation Board of Directors and chairs its Finance Committee (oversight for Audit, Budget and ERM). Steve was inducted into the SIU College of Business Hall of Fame in 2010.
