The end of summer and beginning of Autumn typically has mild days and nights. Temperatures range from 65°F during the day and 50°F at night in Scotland and Ireland.

Wardrobe

Comfortable, casual, and loose-fitting clothing and shoes are the key to relaxed travel. Clothes that do not wrinkle easily work best (i.e. khakis, dress slacks, casual blouses or sport shirts). Dressing in layers allows you to adjust to climate changes.

For sightseeing or tours, be sure to pack for comfort. Light cotton slacks, khakis, shorts, jeans, T-shirts and sport blouses/shirts work well. Sneakers and sandals are suggested.

Business casual attire is suggested for all Scientific Sessions and Welcome reception (jackets and ties optional).

The Pound sterling is the currency of Scotland and the Euro is the currency of Ireland.

Food

In terms of gastronomic delights, Edinburgh does not fall short of the refinement so characteristic of the Scottish cuisine. It has distinctive attributes and recipes of it's own, but shares with much wider British and European cuisine as a result of local and foreign influences. Scotland's natural larder of game, dairy products, fish, fruit, and vegetables are the chief factor in traditional Scots cooking, with a high reliance on simplicity.

Ireland has a rich history of hearty and filling foods. With an abundance of land dedicated to sheep, cows and crops, as well as it's simple coastline for fishing, Ireland has plentiful resources for fresh and local ingredients.

Electricity

In Scotland and Ireland the power plugs and sockets are of type G. The standard voltage is 230 V and the standard frequency is 50 Hz.
