Dear Friends,

Julianne and I would like to extend a warm invitation to join us in the Celtic capitals of Edinburgh and Dublin for the 118th annual meeting of the New York Section of the AUA. These flattering venues will provide a memorable backdrop to what is going to be an absolutely unique entertaining and scholarly conference.

Our journey commences on Sept 6, 2020 when the group arrives in Edinburgh and check in at the Waldorf Astoria Edinburgh - Caledonian Hotel. This 5-star lodging is the converted British grand railway station of the Scottish capital. The station concourse and ticket office have been marvelously preserved as a public space to provide a very special gathering place to meet up with colleagues and old friends. This historic residence provides luxury accommodations that are within walking distance of Edinburgh castle, the Royal Mile, Old Town (a UNESCO Heritage site) and dozens of authentic local pubs. Edinburgh is a safe walk-able city and to help you get your bearings we have arranged a scavenger hunt in the afternoon. This will be followed by a casual welcome reception at our hotel.

On Monday the 7th our educational program commences. The scientific sessions are held every morning except Wednesday.  The program Chairs, Mike Schwartz, Richard Lee and Lee Zhao have assembled talent from literally a "who’s who" of urology to present cutting edge thinking in our field. We have partnered with our compatriots in the UK and Ireland to bring in a European perspective on management of urologic diseases. The sessions have been constructed of the highest educational quality while being entertaining and incorporating audience participation. As examples James Eastham will host a Family Feud type session comprised of urology families and Peter Schlegel will be hosting a lively Jeopardy contest.

During the educational session there will be a variety of spouse activities including a tour of the National Galley, cooking class, as well as fascinator construction which will come in very handy for our party Tuesday evening. On Monday afternoon we will take a private tour of the imposing medieval Edinburgh Castle notorious as the prison of Mary Queen of Scotts. That evening we walk a short distance to the Hub, an 1845 Victorian hall where we will experience a traditional Scottish ceilidh. On Tuesday evening we have a special reception that will be held on Queen Elizabeth’s Royal Yacht, the Britannia. This vessel has been hosting the royal family and was where Charles and Diana Honeymooned. It is an amazing experience to step into the shoes of the Royals.

Wednesday morning, we take a 1 hour flight to Dublin and will be staying at the Shelbourne on St. Stephen’s Green. This is Dublin’s premier hotel having hosted heads of state and celebrities from around the globe. It is centrally located and a short walk to numerous museums, eateries, pubs and shopping. In the afternoon the group will be taken to Palmer house for a true Irish country barbecue that includes participating in unique activities such as archery, falconry and sheep herding.

On Thursday morning the spouses will be treated to a visit to the Cliff at Lyons, a world class country estate spa.  In the afternoon the group will have an up-close look at the alcohol industry for which Ireland is famous with tours of the Guinness Plant and Teeling Whiskey facility.

On Friday evening our Gala will be held at Powers Court Estate, a magnificent country compound just outside of the city proper. Tours will be conducted of the spectacular gardens and dinner will be served in the historic hall, followed by dancing with live music. This will officially conclude the meeting and for those traveling back home, note that US customs is in Dublin so no custom lines when you arrive back in the US!

We have planned a post trip to Iceland.  It is on the way back and it is one of the must-see places on this earth. Truly amazing!!!!! Included is a trip to the Blue Lagoon and choices of several breathtaking hiking, sightseeing or 4 wheeling adventures to choose from ….Nuff Said.

We look forward to your participation in what will be a unique and memorable meeting. We realize the NY section meetings are not inexpensive, however the lodging, activities and educational program are the finest available and most importantly the fun with your comrades will be enduring.

A splendid time is guaranteed for all!
