Charles Aldridge, OD
Dr. Chuck Aldridge is a graduate of Southern College of Optometry and practices in Burnsville, NC. He lectures frequently and has written numerous articles on ocular disease, contact lenses and practice management. In addition to his optometry degree, he has obtained a Master’s degree in Business Administration and is a Fellow of the American Academy of Optometry.

Crystal Brimer, OD
Dr. Brimer is a graduate of UNC-Chapel Hill and Southern College of Optometry, and a Fellow of the American Academy of Optometry. She has been in Wilmington, NC, for 17 years, where she owns a private boutique practice and Dry Eye Center. Though it doubles as a clinical investigation site, the practice is primarily dedicated to treating dry eye differently. Dr. Brimer is devoted to the development of equipment and protocols that help doctors differentiate the underlying causes of ocular surface disease and create successful outcomes. Recently, she co-developed the Vision Source Dry Eye Protocol, and was integral in designing the software update for the OCULUS Keratograph® 5M, and the Crystal Tear Report assessment and treatment tool. Dr. Brimer enjoys publishing articles as well as the extensive travel, both nationally and internationally, to lecture and consult within the field. In her down time, she enjoys NC life on the water and being a member of the US Coast Guard Auxiliary.

James Fanelli, OD
Dr. Fanelli is originally from suburban Philadelphia, and attended the Pennsylvania College of Optometry. He has been in private practice since that time in coastal North Carolina, specializing in ocular disease management. He is the founder and clinical and medical director of the Cape Fear Eye Institute in Wilmington, NC

He has lectured extensively around the globe on a wide variety of topics dealing primarily with advanced diagnostic and therapeutic modalities. He has developed a course for certifying ODs in the use of injections in primary eye care that has been used by several states, and was the first optometrist to teach injections procedures at national meetings in the USA.

Dr. Fanelli is a Contributing Editor for Review of Optometry, and is the author of the bi-monthly Glaucoma Grand Rounds column.

He is a past President of the North Carolina State Board of Examiners in Optometry. He is also a past Trustee of the North Carolina Optometric Society, where he served as Continuing Education Chairman. He serves as chairman of the EyeSki Optometric Conference and the CE in Italy/Europe Conference. He is an adjunct faculty member of the Pennsylvania College of Optometry, Western University of Health Sciences and UAB School of Optometry.

Eric Schmidt, OD
Eric E. Schmidt, O.D. is the President of Omni Eye Specialists, a multispecialty practice headquartered in Wilmington, NC. Dr. Schmidt graduated from the University of Illinois and received his Doctor of Optometry degree from the Pennsylvania College of Optometry. He completed a Residency in Ocular Disease from The Eye Institute of PCO and a fellowship in Glaucoma from Scheie Eye Institute in Philadelphia.

Dr. Schmidt is an adjunct professor at various Colleges of Optometry and is a frequent contributor to optometric journals. He is the author of the textbook "Clinical Procedures of The Lids and Nasolacrimal System" and lectures internationally on eye disease. He has a special interest in glaucoma and anterior segment procedures as well as Neuro Eye Disease.

Scott Sikes, OD
Dr. Sikes has been in optometry from a very early age. He started out working at his father’s office in high school and has been in the profession ever since. He graduated from The University of North Carolina at Wilmington with a B.S. in Biology Pre-Med in 2005, and then attended The University of Alabama at Birmingham School of Optometry where he graduated in 2009. Dr. Sikes practiced optometry in Wilmington for almost five years before moving back to the Triangle area to join Chapel Hill Eyecare. In January of 2018, Dr. Sikes purchased Chapel Hill Eyecare from Dr. Laurel Gropper.

Dr. Sikes enjoys treating all diseases of the eye, as well as fitting basic and specialty contact lenses for patients of all ages. He provides care for patients with glaucoma, diabetic retinopathy, macular degeneration and chronic dry eye. Dr. Sikes enjoys actively co-managing patient care with primary care physicians as well as ophthalmologists whenever possible.

Dr. Sikes is married to the love of his life, Afton, and they have two sons named Hudson and Foster. They also have a Scottish Terrier named Tucker. When Dr. Sikes isn’t seeing patients, he enjoys wakeboarding, soccer, golf, surfing, woodworking, and DIY projects.

Rebecca Wartman, OD
Dr. Rebecca Wartman attended The University of the South (B.A. Psychology) and University of Missouri St Louis School of Optometry. She is in private practice caring for nursing facility patients in western North Carolina. She writes and lectures on insurance and coding issues, drug side effects, opioids and eye care in the long term care setting. She currently serves NCOS as the Third Party Liaison, is a consultant for Eye Care Centers OD, PA and serves on the American Optometric Association Coding Committee, and is the AOA advisor to CPT® Editorial Panel.
