Summary

The last day of February is recognized worldwide as Rare Disease Day.  We at SickKids, are proud to join the many who are working towards providing faster diagnoses, advanced therapies, and ultimately cures for those families affected by rare disease.

On behalf of Can-Gard, SickKids Clinical & Metabolic Genetics and SickKids Foundation, we invite you to join us, virtually, on February 26, 2021, Rare Disease Day @ SickKids. This year's theme will be "Advancing diagnosis and treatment for rare musculoskeletal disorders". 

We are delighted to announce Dr. Matthew Warman, MD, Boston Children's Hospital will be our keynote speaker. 
Dr. Matthew Warman is the Harriet M. Peabody Professor of Genetics and Orthopedic Surgery at Harvard Medical School, Boston, and Director of the Orthopedic Research Laboratories at Boston Children’s Hospital. He received a Sc.B. in Engineering from Brown University in Rhode Island and an M.D. from Cornell University in New York. 
Dr. Warman’s research focuses on patients with genetic diseases that affect the skeleton. These diseases include Mendelian disorders, such as Progressive Pseudorheumatoid Arthropathy of Childhood, and non-heritable conditions caused by somatic mutation, such as Klippel-Trenaunay syndrome. 

Your hosts, Drs. Monica Justice, Roberto Mendoza and Jim Dowling will kickstart this extraordinary event at 11:30 AM which will also include welcoming remarks from our SickKids' President & CEO, Dr. Ronni Cohn.

Spotlight on Rare Disease Research at SickKids and Beyond

During Rare Disease Week [February 22- 26, 2021], our audience will receive an inside look at rare disease research and discoveries happening at SickKids and across the country. Each day a number of scientists, who are illuminating the path and conducting groundbreaking research in the rare disease field, will be showcased on the Can-Gard website. Drop by to learn more.


Poster Session

Our virtual poster session will also be held from February 22 to 25. Attendees will have the opportunity to learn about some of the ongoing research happening at SickKids by our trainees. Each day, posters summarizing research on rare diseases will be posted here Poster presenters will host zoom virtual sessions to chat with attendees and judges about their research.

  • Posters will be available from Feb 22 - 25, 2021.
  • Each poster presenter will have their own zoom room/link allowing attendees time to interact with the poster presenter and other participants to discuss the poster. For a complete list of zoom rooms/links click here.
