Registration & Abstract Submission

In order to submit an abstract for a poster, you must first register and pay for the symposium. You will receive an email with a link to submit the abstract.

If you wish for your poster abstract to be considered for a short talk or travel award, you must submit a poster abstract on or before May 4, 2018. During the abstract submission process, there will be boxes to indicate if you are requesting consideration for either a short talk or a travel award (or both).

Note: The symposium is offering 15-20 travel awards of up to $500 each, plus registration fee waiver, for beginning assistant professors, postdocs, graduate and undergraduate students who will be presenting a research poster at the program.  Individuals from under-represented groups are encouraged to apply for travel awards.  Travel funds will be based on research content, relevancy to the symposium theme, and financial need. Notifications will be made to travel award recipients by approximately May 11, 2018.

Abstract Submission for Symposium

  • Have your one page abstract completed and saved in a Word document (doc or docx. file) before beginning the submission process.  Additional information for formatting the abstract is below
  • The deadline for abstract submission is May 4 to be included in the print program. Abstracts may be submitted until June 1.
  • Abstracts must be submitted by May 4 in order to be considered for a short talk selection and travel award.
  • You will receive an email confirming the receipt of your abstract submission. Save this email. You have the ability to make changes via the link provided in the email until May 4.

Preparing Abstracts

Abstracts will be compiled into a book and distributed to attendees. It is important to follow directions closely. 

  • Do not change page size, margins or other layout aspects of the document file.
  • Title of the presentation. List of author names, with the name of the author presenting the poster or talk indicated with an asterisk.
  • Institution name and mailing address. Where two or more authors have different addresses, place a superscript number after each author’s name and a corresponding superscript before each author’s address. If all authors are from the same institution, no numbering is needed.
  • Body of abstract. Please keep your entire abstract limited to one page, 8 ½ x 11” with 1” margins and 12 pt Times New Roman font. Gray scale figures permitted as long as they fit on the page.

Poster Dimensions & Presentation Details

  • Posters should be 36" x 46" in either landscape or portrait format.
  • Velcro for affixing posters to boards will be provided at the registration table. 
  • Posters will be featured at poster sessions on Wednesday and Thursday and during coffee breaks and lunch throughout the symposium.
