4-H Citizenship Washington Focus

Road trip across the USA stopping to see Philadelphia, Gettysburg, the Liberty Bell and more! Meet, learn, share and tour with youth from other states and respected resource people.Walk among places that have made history and places that are making news today.Visit Capitol Hill, government departments, historic sites, and memorials.Get a close-up view of political process through visits to Capitol Hill.Meet with the Kansas Congressional and Senate delegations to discuss legislative issues.Participate in workshops and assembly groups to learn life skills and discuss possible solutions to domestic and international problems. Interact with 4-H members from other states, learning and sharing about 4-H and other interests and issues.

2019 Itinerary

Day 1 Thursday, June 13: Adventure begins!  Overnight in St. Louis area.

Day 2 Friday, June 14:  Travel to Cambridge, Ohio.

Day 3 Saturday, June 15: Travel to Philadelphia (Independence Hall at 4:00, followed by walking tour) Overnight in area. 

Day 4 Sunday, June 16:  Museum of the American Revolution, then free time (Liberty Bell, shopping, etc.) Arrive at National 4-H Center

Days 5-9: CWF Program: Touring the following: Mt. Vernon, Nightview of Memorials, Arlington Cemetery, committee meetings and workshops, Capitol Hill day, Cultural Heritage Night, and lots more!

Day 10: Gettysburg National Park, Overnight in Somerset, PA.

Day 11: Overnight in Effingham, Illinois

Day 12: Arrive back into Kansas

Application Procedure

There are approximately 50 spots available for this trip!  There are no county quotas.  Applications and cover letters must be submitted online and then will receive approval from Local Extension Units after your application has been submitted and received.   Applications will be accepted until January 15 or until all spaces are filled. Applications will be reviewed as they are received.  Applicants will be notified of their selection and will be required to confirm their intent to participate.  Applicants not selected may be put on a waiting list as alternates.  A complete and current copy of each applicant's Kansas 4-H Participation Form must be on file with the Local Extension Unit.

A $250 nonrefundable deposit will complete your application (due by January 15, 2019) and to guarantee your spot. Checks should be made payable to the "Kansas 4-H Foundation".  Full payment of the $1850 will be accepted at any time before April 15.  Any cancellation made before January 15 will result in a $25 cancellation fee, otherwise cancellations made after January 15 will not receive their $250 deposit back.
