Implementation Science: Studying How Nurses Institute Changes in Practice

Evidence-based practice (EBP) is associated with increased quality of care, improved patient outcomes, greater clinician satisfaction and empowerment, and reduced costs associated with healthcare. Although nurses and other healthcare providers value EBP, there continues to be a gap between evidence and practice. Implementation science is the study of integrating evidence-based practices into routine healthcare. The purpose of this panel presentation is to 1) provide an introduction to implementation science, 2) describe a multi-site implementation study led by nurses, and 3) discuss nurse participation in implementation science.
