11:00 AM - 12:15 PM	Digital Impact Mapping: How your nonprofit can use data to measure your impact “We’re lost, but at least we’re making great time” - choosing the wrong metrics to measure is a recipe for waste at nonprofits with limited time and budgets. This session will teach you the metrics you should be using to understand your nonprofit’s online presence, and how those tie to the offline impact of your organization. Walk away with an undestanding of the digital impact logic model, the Impact Chasm and how to build a bridge across it, and how predictive indicators and tools like Google Analytics can improve decision making in your organization. Nonprofits as a whole work towards improving society, but most focus on specific communities or sectors. Collectively, however, they have the power to change normative behaviors and government policies. Board members, as leaders of your organization and in the community, can leverage their passion to champion the mission and to benefit your cause. 2:15 PM - 3:30 PM	Empathy...It's So 2017! In order to create community out of chaos, we must start with empathy. Although current times call for a strengthening of this skill, studies show that we have actually lost 40% of our ability to be empathic. Empathy can improve organizational and individual relationships in the work place, create more opportunities for partnership and support, and ultimately affect an organization’s ability to do good work. In this course, we will learn how to differentiate between empathy and sympathy, how empathy can be leveraged to result in business impacts, and the role of empathy in building communications and relationships in all areas of an organization. Participants will walk away with a deeper understanding of their own empathy “language” and will be given tools and guiding principles to build empathy within their organizations and selves. 2:15 PM - 3:30 PM	Leading a Nonprofit Leadership Transition-- Successful Hand-Offs to the Next Generation The nonprofit sector is facing a tsunami of executive leadership transitions as baby boomer leaders prepare to retire. Many current leaders and their Boards are grappling with how to lead or enable a leadership transition--and the often needed organizational capacity-building---when even just approaching the idea can be challenging. These two founders and leaders of a successful nonprofit advocacy organization for 22 years will present and discuss how they thought about, then led, planned and executed a successful leadership transition. Since a leadership transition is within the purview of the Board and involves key roles for staff, funders, the incoming leader and other stakeholders of the nonprofit, this session also includes the Board chair and new president to discuss the different perspectives and how these key players worked together toward a successful transition. Mindfulness is not just the latest fad; numerous scientific studies support its effectiveness in helping people manage stress and anxiety. In this session, you will develop a basic understanding of mindfulness, its benefits and how to cultivate it into your personal and professional life. You will have the opportunity to participate in guided meditation and visualization exercises and interact with fellow attendees. 10:45 AM - 12:00 PM	A Collective Impact Approach to Improving Student Outcomes: Lessons from the L.A. Compact No single program, organization, or institution acting in isolation can solve the complex, large-scale education and workforce readiness problems facing our region. Achieving improved outcomes at scale requires Collective Impact: the commitment by cross-sector stakeholders to a common agenda for solving complex social problems. This session will review the fundamentals of the Collective Impact model and how it differs from traditional approaches to social impact that typically rely on investing in individual programs and scaling “what works.” Participants will learn about key mindset shifts required to achieve collective impact, sample governance models for structuring a collective impact effort, and how the L.A. 10:45 AM - 12:00 PM	Beyond Bathrooms: Fostering Transgender and Gender Nonconforming Inclusive Communities Public and nonprofit sector organizations are uniquely positioned to help improve the lives and experiences of individuals who are Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, Queer and Questioning (LGBTQ) and Gender Nonconforming (GNC). Los Angeles County Commission on Human Relations set out to improve the way the County serves LGBTQ/GNC individuals, both as constituents and as employees. What did the County learn from their experience establishing a Gender Identification workgroup and setting out on a comprehensive listening tour? Learn more about their findings on the needs of LGBTQ and GNC communities, best practices for working with and serving LGBTQ and GNC stakeholders, and what you can do in your organization to create a more inclusive environment for employees and clients.
