56th National Junior Science and Humanities Symposium (JSHS) Hunt Valley, MD

The Junior Science and Humanities Symposium (JSHS) is a tri-service competition, funded by the U.S. Army, Navy and Air Force, that promotes original research and experimentation in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) at the high school level and publicly recognizes students for outstanding achievement. JSHS connects talented students, their teachers, and research professionals at affiliated symposia and rewards research excellence in an effort to widen our nation's STEM talent pool and to advance our nation's scientific and technological progress.

On behalf of the research offices of the Department of Defense (DoD), the Academy of Applied Science is pleased to announce the 56th National Junior Science & Humanities Symposium, scheduled May 2-5, 2018 in Hunt Valley, MD. The National JSHS will bring together 230 high school students who qualify for attendance by submitting and presenting original scientific research papers in regional symposia held at universities nationwide. Approximately 160 adult leaders, high school teachers, university faculty, ranking military guests, and others attend to encourage the future generation of scientists and engineers and to celebrate student achievement in the sciences. A full program will be planned in cooperation with our tri-Service hosts and STEM researchers from DoD and the university research community from around the country.

All regional symposia student finalists are invited to present their research at the 56th National JSHS. The top two regional delegates are invited to compete for DoD-sponsored scholarships by presenting their research in oral sessions held on Friday, May 4. All other regional delegates are invited to present their research in poster sessions held on Thursday, May 3. Sessions will be organized by disciplines that are designated by the students during the registration process (abstract and paper submission). All sessions will be held at the Delta Hotels Baltimore Hunt Valley in Hunt Valley, MD.
