5th Annual Practical Topics in Pediatric Emergency Medicine


The 5th Annual Practical Topics in Pediatric Emergency Medicine will be a three-day live program held at the beautiful Marriott Suites on Sand Key in Clearwater Beach, Florida. This year’s event will have a Friday pre-conference workshop on pediatric sports medicine and didactic presentations by faculty at Johns Hopkins All Children’s Hospital and Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine.

Presentation topics include: Acute Chest Pain, Combative Patient, Pediatric Trauma, Eye and Dental Injuries, Hyperglycemia, Diabetic Ketoacidosis, Seizure Management, Suicide and Management of Common Pediatric Illnesses.

The goal of this conference is to make healthcare professionals more comfortable with common pediatric emergency clinical scenarios and procedures.

Learning Objectives: After attending this activity, participants will demonstrate the ability to:

  • Evaluate dental injuries, diagnose, and treat appropriately.
  • Evaluate and manage the child with chest pain, including interpretation of lab work, studies, and EKGs.
  • Diagnose common presentations of eye complaints, including injuries, infections, and allergies.
  • Recognize risk factors for suicide.
  • Evaluate patients presenting with concerning symptoms following recent international travel.
  • Manage the combative patient, including assessment, medications, and non-medical interventions.
  • Assess patients presenting with seizures, complete appropriate workup, and manage status epilepticus.
  • Diagnose diabetes, and manage hyperglycemia and DKA.
  • Evaluate and manage the pediatric patient after an acute traumatic injury.
  • Discuss best practices, referral process, and resource utilization for common pediatric diseases.
  • Manage critical patients through simulated scenarios.
