Michael Akerman, M.D., is an assistant professor of anesthesiology at the Weill Cornell Medical Center. He obtained his medical degree from the Albert Einstein College of Medicine where he also did his residency training. He then went on to complete his fellowship in Regional Anesthesia at Cornell Medical Center. Before joining the faculty at Cornell, he used his knowledge of regional anesthesia to revamp the regional anesthesia service at his previous hospital and increased patient hospital satisfaction. He has taught many regional anesthesia courses at the PGA and with NYSORA. Since joining the faculty at Cornell, he is involved with resident and fellow education.

Dean Andropoulos, M.D., M.H.C.M. is Anesthesiologist-in-Chief at Texas Children’s Hospital, and Professor of Anesthesiology and Pediatrics, and Vice Chair for Clinical Affairs in the Department of Anesthesiology at Baylor College of Medicine, in Houston. He received his M.D. degree from the University of California, San Diego, and completed Pediatrics and Anesthesiology residencies at the University of California, San Francisco. In 2007, he earned a Master’s Degree in Healthcare Management from the Harvard School of Public Health. Dr. Andropoulos leads a department of 80 pediatric anesthesiologists performing over 45,000 anesthetics annually. He has authored over 90 peer-reviewed articles, and 35 textbook chapters, and he is the editor of two major textbooks of Pediatric Anesthesiology. He has held a number of national leadership positions, including as Founding President of the Congenital Cardiac Anesthesia Society, and current President of the Pediatric Anesthesia Leadership Council. His research interests include neurological outcomes and brain protection for infant cardiac surgery, and clinical studies of anesthetic neurotoxicity. He has research funding from the National Institutes of Health and is a co-principal investigator for the Texas Children’s Hospital/BCM NHLBI Pediatric Heart Network Core Clinical Center.

Dr. Atchabahian was a board-certified orthopedic surgeon in Paris, France, prior to coming to the United States in 1996 to do research on peripheral nerve grafts and nerve injection injury at Washington University in St Louis. He then trained in anesthesiology at Columbia University and in critical care medicine at Mount Sinai Medical Center, both in New York City. After 6 years on staff at Columbia University, and a year at St Vincent Medical Center as the Director of Regional and Orthopedic Anesthesia, he joined the Department of Anesthesiology at NYU as an Associate Professor of Clinical Anesthesiology. He was promoted to the rank of Professor of Clinical Anesthesiology in September of 2014. His interests include applied anatomy, the development of multimodal analgesia regimens, and education in regional anesthesia. His research interests encompass long-term outcomes following surgery and anesthesia, and especially the question of whether regional anesthesia and analgesia improves those long-term outcomes beyond the first few days after surgery, but also chronic pain and postoperative cognitive dysfunction. He has published over 40 articles in peer-reviewed journals, over 35 book chapters in addition to being the co-editor of The Anesthesia Guide published by McGraw-Hill, and have given numerous presentations nationally and internationally.

Dr. Douglas R. Bacon was born in Buffalo, New York. He did his undergraduate work at the State University of New York (SUNY) at Buffalo, earning a Bachelor of Science in Medicinal Chemistry and a Bachelor of Arts in History. Medical School at SUNY at Stony Brook followed, earning his M.D. in 1985. Doug interned at Millard Fillmore Hospital completing a year of internal medicine, followed by his residency in anesthesiology at the SUNY at Buffalo Affiliated Hospitals. After residency he became a diplomat of the American Board of Anesthesiology, and while working full time as an anesthesiologist at the Roswell Park Cancer Institute, he completed his Master of Arts in History at SUNY Buffalo. In a career that encompasses almost thirty clinical years, Doug has practiced in a variety of settings including the VA, the Mayo Clinic in Rochester Minnesota and as Chair of the Department of Anesthesiology at Wayne State University in Detroit. His research area of interests focuses on the organization history of anesthesiology in the first half of the twentieth century. Dr. Bacon’s bibliography includes over seventy peer reviewed publications, five books, twenty-eight book chapters, and numerous other publications. Of note, he spent eight years as editor of the American Society of Anesthesiology’s Newsletter. Doug’s research focuses on the history of anesthesiology and professionalism. He was awarded the 2012 Laureate in the History of Anesthesiology by the Wood Library-Museum. Doug is currently is Professor and Chair of the Department of Anesthesiology at the University of Mississippi Medical Center in Jackson, Mississippi where he is the chair of perioperative services committee for the medical center. He is also the Chair of the Publications Committee for the World Federation of Societies of Anesthesiologists.

Dr. Blitz received her M.D. at the Albert Einstein College of Medicine. After completing her residency at the Massachusetts General Hospital, she joined the faculty of the Department of Anesthesiology, Perioperative Care and Pain Medicine at the New York University School of Medicine. She divides her clinical time between the operating room and the preoperative evaluation clinic. She is the medical director of Pre Admission Testing for New York University Langone Health since 2011. Dr. Blitz’ primary academic interest is in the delivery of quality preoperative care and its impact on patient outcomes. She is committed to extending the impact of the preoperative evaluation clinic visit on a patient’s health outcomes beyond the perioperative setting. Dr. Blitz is the author of a manuscript demonstrating an association between a preoperative evaluation clinic visit and a reduction in in-hospital postoperative mortality. She has authored a preoperative medicine web-based curriculum, as well as several book chapters on these topics, and has served as a consultant to other academic medical centers on designing an anesthesiologist-lead preoperative evaluation clinic to improve patient outcomes as well as perioperative efficiency and quality metrics. In addition, Dr. Blitz is a board examiner for the American Board of Anesthesiology.

Christa Boer is Professor of Anesthesiology (Research in Perioperative Care), and published more than 150 papers in international journals. Her translational research focuses on the interplay between microcirculatory perfusion, endothelial activation and coagulation during cardiopulmonary bypass and hemorrhagic shock and on postoperative care. She is member of the subcommittee Transfusion, Haemostasis and Thrombosis of the ESA, and chair of the subcommittee Transfusion & Haemostasis of the EACTA and EACTS-EACTA guideline Patient Blood Management in Cardiac Surgery. In addition, she is member of the SCA Blood Conservation workgroup and NATA scientific committee. She recently joined the editorial board of the British Journal of Anaesthesia.

Doctor Chester “Trip” Buckenmaier III, MD, Colonel, U.S. Army (Retired) is the Program Director and Principal Investigator for the Uniformed Services University’s (USU) Defense & Veterans Center for Integrative Pain Management (DVCIPM) under the department of Military Emergency Medicine. He is Program Director Emeritus of the National Capital Consortium’s Regional Anesthesia Fellowship Program at Walter Reed National Military Medical Center (WRNMMC), Professor in Anesthesiology at the USU and a Diplomat, with the American Board of Anesthesiology. He attended Catawba College, on a Reserve Officers' Training Corps (ROTC) scholarship, graduating with a degree in Biology in 1986. He then attended East Carolina University in Greenville, N.C., receiving a Master in Science in Biology in 1988. In 1992, he graduated from the Uniformed Services University of the Health Sciences in Bethesda, Maryland, completing his Anesthesia Residency at Walter Reed Army Medical Center. In addition, he completed a one year Fellowship in Regional Anesthesia at Duke University in 2002, resulting in the creation of the only Acute Pain Medicine Fellowship in the Department of Defense, based at Walter Reed. In September 2003, he deployed with the 21st Combat Support Hospital to Balad, Iraq, and demonstrated that the use of advanced regional anesthesia can be accomplished in a forward deployed environment. He performed the first successful continuous peripheral nerve block for pain management in a combat support hospital. In April 2009, he deployed to Camp Bastion, Afghanistan with the British military and organized the first acute pain service in a theatre of war. Author and Co-Editor of the Acute and Perioperative Pain section in Pain Medicine, he is extensively published in pain medicine, particularly as it relates to combat wounded. He also serves as the Editor-in-Chief of US Medicine with a monthly column on topics of federal medicine interest.

Michael W. Dailey, MD, FACEP FAEMS, is Chief of the Division of Prehospital and Operational Medicine and an Associate Professor of Emergency Medicine at the Albany Medical College. He is board certified in both Emergency Medicine and EMS. He completed residency in Emergency Medicine at the University of Pittsburgh in 2001, and received his MD from the Albert Einstein College of Medicine in 1998. He has been involved in EMS for over 30 years, with provider experience in volunteer suburban EMS, rural volunteer fire service, urban municipal EMS, and helicopter EMS. Currently, Dr. Dailey serves New York State as a member of the State Medical and Trauma Advisory Committees and the Medical Standards Committee. He is the EMS Medical Director for the Hudson Mohawk Region--REMO, the six counties surrounding the State Capital, and as operational medical director for the Cities of Albany, Schenectady and Watervliet, as well as the Town of Colonie. He is a member of the American College of Emergency Physicians, Society of Academic Emergency Medicine, the National Association of EMS Physicians, the National Association of EMTs, the National Fire Protection EMS Committee and the the International Association of Chiefs of Police. Dr. Dailey also serves as a Chief Surgeon for the NYS Troopers PBA Surgeons Group.

Lee A. Fleisher, MD, is the Robert D. He is a former-Chair and current member of the Consensus Standards Advisory Committee, co-chair of the Surgery Standing Committee and a Member of the Measures Application Partnership Hospital Workgroup of the National Quality Forum, as well as a former member of the Administrative Board of the Council of Faculty and Academic Specialties of the Association of American Medical Colleges. He is a member of the Medical Advisory Panel for the Technology Evaluation Center of the Blue Cross/Blue Shield Association and the Task Force on Practice Guidelines for the American College of Cardiology/American Heart Association. In 2007, he was elected to membership of the National Academy of Medicine (formerly Institute of Medicine) of the National Academy of Sciences and serves on Committees of the NAM.

David Hepner, M.D., M.P.H. is Associate Director of the Weiner Center for Preoperative Evaluation at the Brigham and Women's Hospital and Associate Professor of Anesthesia at Harvard Medical School. Dr. Hepner is actively involved in the perioperative management of patients. He has helped develop the perioperative guidelines that are used daily at the Brigham and Women’s Hospital. He strives for the betterment of perioperative medicine and is responsible for establishing a dedicated teaching curriculum for the residents rotating through the preoperative evaluation center. Dr. Hepner’s clinical and research interests in preoperative assessment and his vision of a society in the area of preoperative assessment and its impact on surgical outcomes led him to be one of the co-founders in 2005 of the Society for Perioperative Assessment and Quality Improvement (SPAQI), an international multidisciplinary society. Since then, he has been an active participant in improving surgical outcomes by sharing best practices, promoting research, and enhancing communication among health professionals across multiple disciplines. He is an Associate Faculty Member of Ariadne Labs. He is focusing his research on implementation of crisis checklists. For the past five years, he has been working on the use of checklists in the operating room.

Dr. Munoz-Price is a Professor of Medicine in the Division of Infectious Diseases and a PhD in Epidemiology with over a decade of experience managing and studying hospital outbreaks caused by enteric organisms. Until 2014, she was the Hospital Epidemiologist for Jackson Memorial Hospital, one of the largest public hospitals in the US. Currently she is the Enterprise Epidemiologist at the Froedtert & Medical College of Wisconsin, in charge of coordinating Infection Control and Antimicrobial Stewardship efforts throughout the Enterprise. With over 70 peer review publications, Dr. Munoz-Price’s work has been published in prestigious academic journals, including the New England Journal of Medicine and Lancet Infectious Diseases. Additionally, Dr. Munoz-Price is a reviewer for over a dozen journals including JAMA and Lancet Infectious Diseases. She is a Board member of the Society of Hospital Epidemiology of America (SHEA), serving in many of its committees, and was the Co-Chair for SHEA’s 2016 Spring Meeting. Additionally, Dr. Munoz-Price has served as a liaison for the prestigious Healthcare Infection Control Practices Advisory Committee (HICPAC)-CDC and was recently an advisor for the Food and Drug Administration. She is also a member of the newly formed Council of Microbial Sciences (COMS) and the Division L Chair of the American Society of Microbiology.

He has just started to collaborate in the 10th edition. He has co-authored the 2013 ESA Guidelines on Management of severe perioperative bleeding and the 2017 update. He chairs the ESA Task Force for the prevention on perioperative venous thromboembolism (guidelines to be published end 2017).
