7th Annual Palliative Care Collaborative Conference of Rochester

Program Overview

The science of palliative care is evolving rapidly.  Palliative care is practiced by both generalists and specialists across a variety of professional disciplines.  This conference targets an inter-disciplinary audience of palliative care generalists and specialists from the Western New York Region to establish an annual venue for continuing professional education in the evolving science and practice of palliative care.
This conference is meant to be a regional palliative care update for clinical providers including physicians, nurse practitioners, physician assistants, nurses, chaplains and social workers.  Presentations will include some basic level reviews of palliative care topics for those early in their palliative care careers as well as state of the science updates for very experienced providers.  There will be learning opportunities both for those whose main focus is pediatric palliative care as well as adult palliative care.

At the conclusion of this activity, participants should be able to:

1.  Name three ways in which you can process and cope with moral distress surrounding caring for seriously ill patients.
2.  Describe two ways in which you will be more aware of the role of music in your patient's lives.
3.  Describe three ways pain can be managed in nonpharmacologic ways.
4.  Name two new ways to enhance palliative care practice as a result of this conference.
