Meeting Location/Date
The 8th Meeting of the NASA Small Bodies Assessment Group will be held at the The Liaison Affinia Capitol Hill Hotel, Washington, DC from January 14-16, 2013. Attendees will convene in the Metropolitan Central Ballroom, located on the lobby level of the hotel on Monday, January 14, 2013 per the agenda provided by Dr. Lindley Johnson and Dr. Mark V. Sykes.
Please register early in advance for this event online to ensure adequate facility and refreshment. Enter your full name and affiliation as you would like for it to appear on your name badge for the event.
Late on-site event registration will begin at 7:30 a.m. A continental coffee refreshment break will be provided.
Hotel Accommodations
• A block of sleeping rooms is currently on hold for all participants attending the NASA SBAG Workshop at the Liaison Affinia Capitol Hill Hotel, located at at 415 New Jersey Avebue NW, Washington, DC 20001 until Friday, December 28, 2012, the deadline for reservations.
• For your convenience and to ensure that your office and family can contact you, the hotel’s phone number is (202) 638-1616. The guest fax number is (202) 638-0707.
• Rooms are held within the group block for three (3) nights, check-in is 3:00 p.m. on Sunday, January 13th; check-out is 12:00 noon on Wednesday, January 16th. The hotel will extended the group rate on shoulder dates prior to and following the event based on availability.
• Internet is available to all NASA Small Bodies Assessment Group overnight guest complimentary as part of the sleeping room rate.
• Housing will be in high demand, it is strongly advised that you check availability and secure accommodations to the event early. Please note that all attendees will be fully responsible for obtaining, managing, canceling, and incurring the cost of all expenses relative to one’s respective lodging reservation.
• Please contact the hotel to make a reservation within the group block on or before Friday, December 28, 2012 at 1-866-246-2203. When you call, please supply the reservation agent with the group code “NASA SBAG” to receive the group rate of $183.00.00 per night plus 14.5% tax.
Rooms are available at the group rate on a first-come, first-served basis.
• Provide the reservations clerk with your full name, credit card number and expiration date to cover the cost of your room and incidental expenses.
• All reservations must be accompanied by a first night room deposit and guaranteed with a major credit card. The hotel will not hold any reservation unless secured by the prescribed method. Cancellations must be made 72 hours in advance prior to your arrival date to avoid a cancellation penalty.

• Reservations by attendees must be received by the hotel on or before Friday, December 28, 2012 (the Cut-Off date or deadline). After the deadline, the hotel will release all unreserved sleeping rooms for sale to the general public at market rates, and determine whether or not it can accept reservations based on a space-and-rate available basis at the group rate.

Travel Arrangements for Government Attendees
Please arrange for your travel to the panel per agency policy through your respective agency or institution. Booking your flight at least 21 days in advance of your departure date will generate significant savings on airfare.
Federal Travel Regulations restrict the types of expenses that may be reimbursed for some travelers, i.e., local travelers (see the rule pertaining to working and residing within 25 miles of the event in the first box under the “Category of Traveler” section), Federal employees (including military personnel), and Intergovernmental Personnel Act (IPA).

Local Airports/ Ground Transportation
(Please Note: All cab and shuttle estimates below are for one-way travel.)
• Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport (DCA): Located about 5 miles from the hotel and generally costs $15-$18.00 by taxi. Travel time is about 10 minutes by car in low-congestion traffic.
• Washington Dulles International Airport (IAD): Located about 27 miles from the hotel. Offers more non-stop flights from west coast locations. Transportation is available via Washington Flyer cab service (costs $65.00-$70.00); shuttle service is about $25 for the first passenger /$10 per additional passenger. Travel time is about 34 minutes by car in low-congestion traffic.
• Baltimore Washington International Airport (BWI): Located about 43.7 miles from the hotel and generally costs approximately $75.00 one-way by taxi; shuttle service is $30 for the first person/$10 per additional passenger. Travel time is about 1 hour and 10 minutes by car in low-congestion traffic.

Amtrak
Amtrak also services the Hampton, Virginia area with a stop point at the Newport News (NPN) Train Station, located 10 miles from the Springhill Suites by Marriott Hampton Coliseum Hotel. Meal Arrangements
- A Complete Day Meeting package for meals will be provided daily to all attendees, which includes a morning refreshment break, a hot lunch buffet, and an afternoon refreshment break.
- Lunch will be provided on January 14th and January 15th to all participants in the Metropolitan East and West Ballrooms; government participants please do not seek reimbursement from your agency or institution.
- Dinner will not be served. However, a list of local restaurant establishments will be provided at Event Registration.
- To ensure a hospitable experience, kindly provide information on any special dietary or medical requirements via email no later than 1 week prior to the event at mwashington@nasaprs.com.
Parking
The Liaison Affinia Capitol Hill Hotel, Washington DC offers parking to day and overnight guests. Valet parking is $48 daily maximum for overnight guests with in and out privileges. The rate for Day Guests is $18.00 per hour with no in and out privileges. Please note that these per car rates are subject to change without notice.

Directions from Reagan National Airport (DCA):
- Reagan National Airport (DCA) is about five miles from The Liaison Capitol Hill. The drive takes less than 10 minutes.
- From the airport, take the George Washington Memorial Parkway North toward Washington.
- Take the 14th Street Bridge exit (ramp is to your right).
- Follow signs to Interstate 395 North.
- Once you are on I-395, look for the signs for US Senate - D Street NW. Careful! You will need to merge to the right over several lanes of traffic.
- The exit will take you into a tunnel. Remain in the right lane (D Street, NW) and proceed through one short tunnel merging to the right lane through a second longer tunnel. Take the D Street NW-US Capitol exit.
- Turn right onto D Street NW. At the second light, turn left onto New Jersey Avenue, NW.
- Liaison Capitol Hill is located in the first block, on the right, at 415 New Jersey Avenue, NW.
Directions from Union Station
Metro Stop, AMTRAK, MARC Commuter Train, and VRE Commuter Train
- Union Station is located just 3 blocks from The Liaison Capitol Hill. The station houses disembarkation points for AMTRAK trains, including the Acela trains from New York and Boston. The Metro subway has a Union Station stop, and commuter trains from Virginia and Maryland stop here as well.
- Exit the station and walk toward the US Capitol, following the first small section of the semi-circle that is adjacent to the station.
- Turn right onto E Street, NW.
- After one block, you will cross North Capitol Street. The Capitol dome will be clearly visible to your left.
- Continue on E Street for one block, and then turn left onto New Jersey Avenue, NW.
- The Liaison Capitol Hill is in the first block, on your left.
- This walk is slightly downhill and quite feasible if you are using wheeled luggage.
- Taxis are also available at a charge of about $5.00.
Directions from Dulles International Airport (IAD):
Dulles International Airport (IAD) is just about 27 miles and takes less than 45 minutes from The Liaison Capitol Hill.
- From the Dulles IAD airport, follow signs to Interstate 66 East.
- Cross the Roosevelt Bridge into Washington.
- Take Constitution Avenue East toward the US Capitol.
- Turn left onto Louisiana Avenue, NW.
- Proceed on Louisiana Ave. for three short blocks; turn left onto New Jersey Avenue, NW.
- Hotel is on your right, at 415 New Jersey Avenue, NW.
Directions from Baltimore-Washington (BWI) Airport and the NORTHEAST:
Baltimore-Washington International Airport (BWI) is about 30 miles and takes less than an hour from The Liaison Capitol Hill. Driving in takes close to an hour.
- From BWI airport, follow signs for I-95 West.
- Take the Baltimore/Washington Parkway / MD-295 South exit towards Washington, exit #2B.
- Merge on MD-295 South.
- Take the New York Avenue (US-50 West) exit towards Washington.
- Continue on New York Avenue NW.
- Turn left onto North Capitol Street, NW.
- When you see the US Capitol Dome ahead, you're getting close!
- Turn right onto Louisiana Avenue and then right again quickly onto D Street, NW.
- Go one block, then turn right onto New Jersey Avenue, NW.
- Liaison Capitol Hill is located in the first block, on the right, at 415 New Jersey Avenue, NW.
Directions from the SOUTH:
- Take Interstate 95 north toward Washington. I-95 will become I-395 where it crosses I-495 (aka the Capital Beltway). (Do not proceed on I-95 east toward Baltimore.)
- Proceed on I-395 north, passing the Pentagon and crossing the Potomac River.
- Stay in one of the right lanes, being careful to remain on I-395 until you see signs for D Street, NW.
- Proceed through a long tunnel, merging right over several lanes, and take the exit marked "D St. NW - US Capitol." When you see the light at the end of this tunnel, proceed straight ahead to the stoplight at the end of the tunnel. (Do not take the little exit near the end of the tunnel that curves off to the right.)
- Turn right onto D Street, NW. At the second light (2 blocks), turn left onto New Jersey Avenue, NW.
- Liaison Capitol Hill is located in the first block, on the right, at 415 New Jersey Avenue, NW.
Directions from the WEST:
- Take I-70 east to I-270 south to I-495 south, following signs for Northern Virginia.
- After crossing the American Legion Bridge over the Potomac River, take I-66 east.
- Cross the Roosevelt Bridge into Washington.
- Take Constitution Avenue East toward the US Capitol.
- Turn left onto Louisiana Avenue, NW.
- Proceed on Louisiana Ave. for three short blocks; turn left onto New Jersey Avenue, NW.
- Hotel is on your right, at 415 New Jersey Avenue, NW.
Other ways to travel to the hotel from the airports:
- Contact Super Shuttle at 1-800-BLUE-VAN
- Shuttles from Reagan National Airport cost $10-$15; cab fare is about $15. (It is relatively simple to take Metro from Reagan National to Union Station; however, remember there is a short walk from Union Station to the hotel.)
- Shuttles from Dulles International Airport cost about $22 for 1 person, plus $10 for each additional person; cab fare is about $50.
- Shuttles from Baltimore-Washington International Airport cost about $30; cab fare is about $60.
Please note: Although you can travel between BWI and Union Station via MARC train and a bus, taking a cab is actually more efficient.
