IFIE (The International Forum for Investor Education) and IOSCO (The International Organization of Securities Commissions) are partnering for the 9th time on this annual event. The Brazilian Financial and Capital Markets Association (ANBIMA) is hosting the 2017 IFIE-IOSCO Global Investor Education Conference in Rio de Janeiro, 4-6 June 2017.
IOSCO - The International Organization of Securities Commissions (IOSCO), established in 1983, is the acknowledged international body that brings together the world's securities regulators and is recognized as the global standard setter for the securities sector. IOSCO develops, implements and promotes adherence to internationally recognized standards for securities regulation, and is dedicated to enhancing investor protection and promoting investor confidence. IOSCO's membership regulates more than 95% of the world's securities market and is one of the few international organizations that includes all the major emerging market jurisdictions within its membership.
IOSCO believes the need for investor education and financial literacy has never been greater than it is today. In response to these challenges, the IOSCO Board established Committee 8 on Retail Investors in 2013. The Committee's primary mandate is to conduct IOSCO's policy work on retail investor education and financial literacy. Its secondary mandate is to advise the IOSCO Board on emerging retail investor protection matters and conduct investor protection policy work as directed by the IOSCO Board.
IFIE - The International Forum for Investor Education (IFIE) is the only global organization solely focused on developing and strengthening multi-sector resources toward implementation of Financial Capability/Investor Education programmes and initiatives worldwide:
ANBIMA - We are the Brazilian Financial and Capital Markets Association. The entity has the purpose of representing and defending the interests of more than 300 members including banks, asset managers, brokers, securities dealers and investment advisers, which reflects the plurality and independence of our association. We work for the representation and coordination of our members’ interests, locally and internationally, and are dedicated to the development of a stronger capital market in Brazil. Our mission is based on four commitments: represent, self-regulate, inform and educate.
We are a reference in the Brazilian capital market for a private and voluntary self-regulatory model, establishing rules by the market and for the market for control and enforcement as well as codes of best practices. By improving operational standards along with Brazilian regulators, ANBIMA aims at strengthening not only the domestic capital market but also raising the bar in order to inspire efficient and transparent practices overseas. The development of the Brazilian capital market cannot be carried out without educated investors and well-trained professionals, so they can offer their clients the best advice. With this in mind, we support and offer certification programs, while fostering initiatives to provide financial education to society.
