A Trail to Every Classroom 2012 Alumni Workshops

Connecting Youth and Communities Along the Appalachian Trail

We are excited to offer a year of workshops just for our Alumni! We have trained over 275 teachers and partners so far, and want to continue to deepen and build upon Place-Based Service-Learning on the Appalachian Trail.
Alumni workshops will provide an immersive experience where placed-based service learning content and pedagogy are explored in more depth, continuing to build upon the skills you learned in the original three workshops.  Three new professional development sessions are being offered this year to serve as a space to revisit key curricular topics and further develop the capacity of teachers to provide quality instruction to students along the Appalachian Trail.
The alumni workshops will also bring together teachers from all along the Appalachian Trail corridor to share in successes and challenges they’ve had with the Trail to Every Classroom program, allowing them to provide support for each other as they continue to deepen their own understandings and ideas in an interdisciplinary context.

Application Deadline extended to March 25, 2012

The alumni workshops are not cumulative, and alumni are welcome to apply for one, two, or all three workshops in any region.  If you choose to apply for more than one workshop, we will ask you to prioritize your choices.

Space is limited for each of the workshops. Selection will be based on commitment to TTEC curriculum and getting kids out on the trail.  We will select a range of participants from various regions of the trail, as well as a range of hiking experience.

You should be willing to:
• Come with the strong support of your administrator. A letter of support is highly recommended.
• Participate in sessions and hikes rain or shine.
• Participate in program evaluations.

Alumni are encouraged to participate in the Summer Workshop with a local AT club member.  Please visit the Club Information tab to find out how to get in touch with your local club.

As always workshops are offered free of charge and meals, lodging, camping equipment and materials will be provided.
