CONSTRUCTION & COLLABORATION: Pathways to the Future is the exciting theme of our 2012 AAPC Conference. Bringing together an incredible group of plenary speakers and workshop presenters to the National Conference Center in Leesburg, Virginia, this conference promises attendees the opportunity to engage “cutting edge” thought in theology, psychotherapy and collaborative models of community care and training.
Drawing together congregational, community, classroom, and clinical contexts, our plenary speakers blend years of experience with fresh perspectives in their respective disciplines. As a highly regarded pastoral theologian, Rev. Pamela D. Couture, Ph.D. (Jane and Geoffrey Martin Chair in Church & Community, Emmanuel College, Toronto, Canada) offers critical perspectives to our theological work at the intersections of the social, cultural, and economic contexts in which we practice. As an eminent therapist and theorist, Harlene Anderson, Ph.D. (recipient of the prestigious 2000 Outstanding Contributions to Marriage and Family Therapy Award from AAMFT) brings a focus on clinical practice that is informed by the leading edge of theory in postmodern and social constructionist thought. Finally, national expert in health care reform, Ronald W. Manderscheid, Ph.D. (Executive Director of The National Association of County Behavioral Health and Developmental Disability Directors and Adjunct Professor at the Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health) brings an important perspective on community-based care and faith communities that promises to enliven our thinking and practice.
Workshops selected for this year’s conference will greatly enhance the practice of all attendees. Here’s a sample:
- Sinking Sand: When Theology No Longer Provides a “Solid Rock” for Pastoral Counseling
- Advancing a Public Health Approach to Children’s Mental Health through Faith/Community Partnerships
- Clergy Effectiveness Research – A Model for Assessment & Coaching
- Panels of practitioners on Queer Theology and Narrative & Collaborative Practices in Therapy
- Integrative Pastoral Psychotherapy Training: A Collaborative Model of a Healthcare System, an AAPC Training Program & Various Graduate Programs
- The Curtis D. Robinson Men's Health Institute: An Innovative Partnership to Address Health Disparities with Faith Communities
You will not want to miss this exciting opportunity to creatively and energetically envision our future as practitioners, leaders and as an Association.
