The University of Minnesota campus lies in the heart of the Twin Cities, directly connected by light rail to both Amtrak’s Union Depot in downtown St. Paul (beautifully renovated) and to the Minneapolis–Saint Paul International Airport, so a car is not necessary if the lodging you choose is on or near campus. The campus is also 2-3 blocks from two major highways, 35W (north/south) and I-94 (east/west), and parking options in the summer are plentiful. On the University of Minnesota campus, a free campus bus system runs every 5-15 minutes, connecting the main Minneapolis campus to the St. Paul campus, about 3 miles or 10 minutes away. The St Paul campus is home to many environmental and agriculture programs, including the Institute on the Environment (IonE), where the workshop will take place.
What we recommend: New this year UMN has summer guest housing in a brand new dorm, with sustainable features (great grey water system, sustainable interior materials, energy efficient, sustainable food on the ground floor), a perfect campus location near transportation, renting out for $60 per night in June! (this building was featured in a presentation at AASHE 2015.)
