Join Cleveland State University for an afternoon of art and good conversation! CSU and the Cleveland Museum of Art have joined forces to examine an incredible piece of art recently acquired by the Museum — the Caporali Missal: A Masterpiece of Renaissance Illumination.
CSU guests will have the opportunity to gather together for a private luncheon in the dazzling new private dining room of the Cleveland Museum of Art for the "behind the scenes" story of how CSU and the CMA created this unique partnership. Dr. Matt Jackson-McCabe, Chair, Department of Religious Studies will share his perspective on this unique piece of art.
Following our private gathering, you are invited to attend a public lecture by the Cleveland Museum of Art's Stephen Fliegel, Curator of Medieval Art, as he examines this little-known manuscript produced for the Franciscan community of Montone in Italy's Umbria region in 1469.
The subject of a current exhibition, the missal is examined for its impressive decoration by the Caporali brothers as well as the context of its use as the service book for the priest at the altar. This is an incredible opportunity to learn more about a fascinating piece of art and its historical and cultural impact during its era.
You will have the opportunity to visit the exhibit and view this breathtaking piece of art before the luncheon or after the public lecture.WHEN
