Acquired Brain Injury: Overview, Strategies, & Resources (C, H)

Training Description

Learn about acquired brain injury (ABI) and how to effectively support residents who have had brain injury caused by events after birth, such as a fall, a road accident, tumor and stroke. This training will define and explore the different categorizations and potential causes of ABI. The impact a brain injury has on cognitive, physical, and emotional functioning in terms of the area in the brain where damage occurred, will be discussed, along with the importance of screening for and identifying brain injury. Strategies will be provided for improving services for brain injury survivors living in our housing communities. Finally, participants will gain knowledge about where and how to access services, resources, and support for brain injury survivors and caregivers. This course fulfills the HUD RSC training requirement under the subject area – Strategies for Dealing with Cognitive Impairments.
