ACU 2018 Annual Conference

Pre-Conference Workshops

Attendees will have the opportunity to attend Pre-Conference Workshops at the 2018 ACU Annual Conference.  These workshops will take place on Sunday, 4:00pm - 6:00pm and run concurrently.  Attendance is limited to 25 participants.

COST:  There is a $50 registration fee to attend a Pre-Conference Workshop in addition to the conference registration fee. 

The descriptions for the Pre-Conference Workshops are below.


Pre-Conference Workshop (1)

Using Your Voice: Advocacy 101 - This session will shed some light on the process of how legislation is introduced, considered and debated, and signed into law and what you can do to influence public policy.  It will also cover basic principles of successful advocacy and a summary of tactics that build power and influence for individuals and grassroots organizations.

 

Learning Objectives: 

  1. Understand the legislative and appropriations processes, understand the points at which grassroots advocates can best influence public policy and generate significant, ongoing communications to and with Members of Congress
  2. Build a permanent grassroots infrastructure capable of influencing members of Congress, the Administration and state governments
  3. Build significant, ongoing local media visibility and support for the NHSC       

Pre-Conference Workshop (2)

Making Workforce Work in Your Community - Whether you are employed by a PCA or a Health Center, engaging partners as part of you overall workforce or recruitment plan is vital to your success as an organization. During this session, you’ll learn why it is important of engaging community members as a part of your workforce activities, along with how to engage these various members of your community. You’ll take away some practical tools and tips to implementing this process.  This session will feature some small group work as we break into teams based on organization type. 

 

Learning Objectives:

  1. Understand the importance of engaging community members in their workforce activities
  2. Identify the roles for different types of community members
  3. Access templates used to organize team members during the recruitment process
