This course seeks to enhance the knowledge and skills of the participant specifically related to the surgical management of upper extremity orthopaedic fractures. This course focuses on repair and reconstructive strategies utilizing internal fixation constructs, intramedullary fixation, and joint arthroplasty for complex musculoskeletal trauma. Lecture sessions will include didactic instruction and case-based presentations of challenging cases. Lab sessions will include a variety of anatomy-based dissections as well as surgical approach instruction for each indication.
Focusing on the management of Proximal Humerus fractures, our faculty will share their experience in treating these challenging indications.

Dr. Thomas Goetz is an orthopaedic surgeon with subspecialty in hand, upper extremity surgery, microsurgery, and trauma. He is the Clinical Assistant Professor in the Department of Orthopaedics at the University of British Columbia.
Parham Daneshvar, MD
Dr. Parham Danehvar is an orthopaedic surgeon spealizing in hand and upper extremity surgery, with a special interest in peripheral nerve injuries and their treatments. He is a Clinical Assistant Professor at the University of British Columbia, Department of Orthopaedics and a member of the PHCRI Ethics Board.
Derek Plausinis, MD, FRCSC
Dr. Derek Plausinis is an orthopaedic surgeon specializing in Shoulder and Elbow surgery with a special interest in adult and pediatric trauma. He is currently the division head of orthopaedic surgery at Kelowna General Hospital, in Kelowna, BC.
