ADC 2019 Annual Meeting

This year’s Annual Meeting will provide many opportunities to receive valuable education, see the latest in products and services, connect with colleagues, and enjoy beautiful San Francisco during the holiday season. This meeting offers a comprehensive program on interesting topics of significance to your practice, and provides for 9.25 hours of MCLE credit, including 1.0 hour of Elimination of Bias specialty credit. Many thanks to Annual Meeting Chair, Chris Johnson, for assembling an excellent line up of speakers and topics; do not miss out and be sure to attend this year’s meeting at the historic Westin St. Francis Hotel on Union Square.

The meeting will start on Thursday morning with the ADC Annual Business Meeting in which we will elect the incoming officers and board members as well as present a proposed bylaw amendment to allow for Dual Membership in the ADC for our friends from the Association of Southern California Defense Counsel. Up next will be an update from the Judges of San Francisco, San Mateo and Santa Clara counties who will let ADC members know what is going on with funding, filings and trial dates in the court system.

Tired of reading advance sheets? Don’t worry – we have compressed key civil opinions from the appellate court by topical area in the popular Year in Review on Thursday morning. The work is all done for you. Just listen and catch up! Other CLE sessions will include topics on transportation, gender bias, medical/healthcare, construction, time management, the California Consumer Privacy Act and an interesting session is planned to enhance your presentation skills while in court.

Of course, Mike Belote, our CDC Lobbyist, will provide his annual Legislative Update on Friday morning. Mike’s session will be followed by a session on cyber risk. This year’s inspirational speaker on Friday morning will be sure to pull at your heart strings with Tom Kowalski and his dog Dynamo; see page 10 of this brochure for Tom’s story. Wrapping up the Annual Meeting will be our Keynote Luncheon with Erwin Chemerinsky, the Dean of Berkeley Law, University of California. Erwin is the author of eleven books, including leading casebooks and treatises about constitutional law, criminal procedure, and federal jurisdiction. He also is the author of more than 200 law review articles. He writes a regular column for the Sacramento Bee, monthly columns for the ABA Journal and the Daily Journal, and frequent op-eds in newspapers across the country. He frequently argues appellate cases, including in the United States Supreme Court; you don’t want to miss this very interesting and informative address.

Finally, be sure to download the App, sign up to serve on a committee, and enjoy the celebration!

Happy 60th Anniversary – See you at the St. Francis!
