The revised Advanced Level Psychomotor Examination consists of skills presented in a scenario-type format to approximate the abilities of the Advanced Emergency Medical Technician (AEMT), NREMT-Intermediate/99, and NREMT-Paramedic to function in the out-of-hospital setting. All skills have been developed in accordance with the 1994 EMT-Basic National Standard Curriculum; the behavioral and skill objectives of the 1999 EMT-Intermediate and EMT-Paramedic National Standard Curricula; the 2009 Education Standards and Instructional Guidelines for the Advanced Emergency Medical Technician; the National Trauma Triage Protocol published by the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services Centers for Disease Control and Prevention; and current AHA guidelines for BCLS and ACLS that are updated as necessary. The process is a formal vertification of the candidate's "hands-on" abilities and knowledge, rather than a teaching, coaching, or remedial training session.
