Spend a day with Alice Ferris, ACFRE, CFRE, and James Anderson, CFRE, of GoalBusters, LLC as they share their wisdom and humor during two can't-miss sessions. Choose to attend one or both.

Whether you are a seasoned fundraiser or new to the profession, this speaker series provides practical solutions to common fundraising challenges of both small and large nonprofits. 


Session 1: Break the Rules: When Best Practices Aren't and What to Do Instead There are many “givens” in fundraising that are based on “best practice.” Best practices are called that for a reason, right? In your day-to-day life, however, it often depends. In this occasionally heretical session, we'll discuss the core purposes of common practices, apply critical analysis to determine if they're really effective, identify the new best things and emerging trends that might stick, and discuss how to make the best of the practices you can't get rid of. 

Session 2: Never Too Small to Succeed: Major Gifts for Small Shops
 With all the day to day demands of a development program, particularly at small to mid-size shops, it can be difficult, if not impossible, to think about cultivating major donors. Growing a major gifts program takes time, right? Yes, but any organization and any size staff can find a way to add philanthropic thinking to their all their fundraising strategies, which can lead to major gifts without a lot of additional effort. This session will share practical strategies on how to make big gifts happen regardless of your resources.


About the Presenters

Alice L. Ferris, CFRE, ACFRE, GoalBusters, LLC Founding Partner, has more than 25 years of professional fundraising experience. Alice specializes in strategic and development planning, capital campaign studies, board and organizational training, executive leadership coaching, direct mail and grant proposal creation and editing. Alice is the 2015-2017 chair of the Advanced Certified Fundraising Executive (ACFRE) credentialing board and Board member for CFRE International, and a past board member of AFP International, where she also served as Vice Chair for Membership Services in 2009-2010. Alice is a past president of AFP Northern Arizona Chapter and is an AFP Faculty Training Academy graduate. 
James S. Anderson, CFRE, GoalBusters, LLC Partner, has more than 30 years of sales and sales training experience through his positions with local media and national research companies such as Nielsen Media, Simmons and Scarborough Research. Jim specializes in marketing and branding strategy, social media marketing, multimedia production, direct sales and sponsorship training programs, and board and organizational training. Jim is past president of the AFP Northern Arizona Chapter, has served on the AFP International Communications and Marketing Committee, the Committee on Directorship, and is an AFP Faculty Training Academy graduate. Jim is also an instructor at Northern Arizona University.
