ISACA Virginia is pleased to welcome Kevin Savoy, CPA, CISA, CISSP, MBA, Director of Hospital and IT Audits, UNIVERSITY of VIRGINIA as speaker for the upcoming Annual Joint Meeting of ISACA and IIA Central Virginia Chapters on Monday, December 17, 2012. The topic of the meeting is “IT forensic investigations”
Kevin has over 26 years’ experience in IT operations, IT security, business operations, and audit in government and private industry and is currently Director of Hospital and Information Technology Audits for the University of Virginia. His audits are based on COBIT, FISMA, ISO27002, HIPAA, PCI and many other best practice IT security standards. In his current position his specialty is computer forensics which has led him to work with state and local law enforcement, the FBI, and others on cybercrimes.
Previously, he was IT Security Audit Director for the Auditor of Public Accounts (State Auditors) for the Commonwealth of Virginia.
Abstract:
Kevin’s presentation will cover the IT forensic investigations that the University of Virginia IT Internal Audit Team has performed. The Internal Audit Department is responsible for all pornography investigations, administrative financial investigations, some personnel investigations, and some types of criminal investigations along with the UVA Police. UVA IT Audit has over 100 IT forensic investigations under its belt and have gone to court on several occasions. In addition they have worked in depth with federal law enforcement on a million dollar cyber hack and other federal issues. The session will walk through a case from beginning to end while explaining the issues that arise from these investigations such as policy and procedures, laws, proper forensic techniques and tools, evidence collection and secure storage, testifying in court, working with senior leaders of your agency, and working with the FBI and other law enforcement agencies. The session will end with a quick update of UVA’s process of creating a forensic “hot shot” team of IT Security, Audit, and UVA Police personnel.
