Tuesday April 28 – Departure

Depart from Ona

 

Wednesday April 29 - Arrival

Land at Ben Gurion Airport; meet guide. Drive to Tel Aviv; check in to hotel. Dinner at hotel. Review itinerary with tour leader and tour guide. Overnight: Dan Panorama Hotel, Tel Aviv

 

Thursday April 30 – Shiloh, Jaffa & Tel Aviv

Breakfast at hotel. Drive east to Shiloh, religious capital of Israel at the time of the judges; tour site. Drive to Mt Gerizim. Return to Tel Aviv. Continue to Carmel Market, Tel Aviv's open-air market. Lunch on own in market. Walking tour of the ancient seaport of Jaffa. See the entrance to the house of Simon the Tanner. Hear the story of Jonah and the whale. Return to hotel. Dinner at hotel. Overnight: Tel Aviv

 

Friday May 1 – Caesarea, Mt Carmel, Megiddo & Nazareth

Breakfast at hotel; check out. Drive to Caesarea National Park, with archaeological ruins spanning over 2000 years including an impressive Roman theater and beautifully preserved aqueduct; tour park. Continue to Muhraka, where according to tradition Elijah defeated the prophets of Ba’al; spectacular panoramic view of Jezreel Valley and Nazareth. Druze-style lunch on Mt Carmel. Drive to Megiddo National Park, the site of "Armageddon" where the great battle between the sons of light and the sons of darkness is to take place according to the Book of Revelation. Drive to Nazareth; stop at Mary’s Well and the Church of the Annunciation. Continue to Mt Precipice for panoramic view of area. Drive to Sea of Galilee; check in to hotel. Dinner at hotel. Overnight: Nof Ginnosar Hotel on the Sea of Galilee.

 

Saturday May 2 – Golan Heights & Around the Sea of Galilee

Breakfast at hotel. Drive north to the Dan Nature Reserve, whose powerful water serves as one of the sources of the Jordan River; remains of Canaanite city as well as altar from the time of King Jeroboam. Visit Banias National Park, site of Caesarea Philippi. St Peter's fish lunch at restaurant on shore of Sea of Galilee. Continue to Capernaum, Jesus' base during his ministry in the north. Drive to Mt of Beatitudes, traditional site of the Sermon on the Mount. Visit Magdala Project, site of excavations of 1st Century Jewish fishing village where synagogue from the time of Jesus has been discovered. Boat ride on Sea of Galilee. Return to hotel. Dinner followed by time together to discuss the day. Overnight: Nof Ginnosar

 

Sunday May 3 - Beit She’an and the Jordan Valley

Breakfast; check out of hotel. Drive up to Mt Arbel, overlooking the Sea of Galilee and the path probably used by Jesus between Nazareth, Cana and the communities on the sea. Continue south to Beit She’an National Park, site of one of the most important cities in the region in antiquity. Falafel lunch on own in Beit She’an. Drive south via Jordan Valley past Jericho to Qasr el Yahud, traditional site on the Jordan River where Jesus was baptized; optional baptism ceremony. Drive to hotel on Dead Sea; check in. Dinner at hotel. Overnight: Leonardo Plaza Hotel, Dead Sea.

 

Monday May 4 – Masada, Ein Gedi, the Dead Sea & Wadi Qelt

Breakfast at hotel; check out. Drive to Masada; ascend via Snake Path (weather permitting) or cable car; tour Herod's fortress and site of the Zealots' last stand against the Romans in 73 A.D.; descend via cable car. Visit Ein Gedi National Park, desert oasis and site where David fled from Saul. Float/swim in Dead Sea, the lowest place on earth. Lunch at restaurant overlooking Dead Sea. Drive by Jericho, one of the oldest cities in the world. Go on short hike in Wadi Qelt in the Judean Desert. Drive to Jerusalem, stopping at Mt Scopus for panoramic view of Old and New Jerusalem. Check in to hotel. Dinner at hotel. Overnight: Dan Panorama Hotel, Jerusalem

 

Tuesday May 5 – Old Jerusalem

Breakfast at hotel. Drive to Mount of Olives for panoramic view of Old & New Jerusalem. Walk down mount to Garden of Gethsemane; worship and learning in garden. Drive to Jaffa Gate; enter Old City and walk through market in Christian Quarter. Visit Church of the Holy Sepulcher. Lunch on own in Christian Quarter of Old City. Walk in Old City to Jewish Quarter stopping at Broad Wall, built at the time of Hezekiah. Continue along the Cardo, built during the Byzantine period. Continue to traditional site of Room of the Last Supper and King David’s tomb on Mt Zion. Return to hotel. Dinner at hotel. Guest speaker: Israel Update. Overnight: Jerusalem

           

Wednesday May 6 – Temple Mount, City of David and Yad Vashem

Early breakfast. Drive to Old City; go up on Temple Mount and tour site. Visit the Kotel (Western Wall). Visit the southern wall steps, which led up to the Temple Mount at the time of Jesus, located in the Davidson Archaeological Park. Visit City of David, where Jerusalem began 3,000 years ago; opportunity to go on water hike in Hezekiah’s Tunnel, carved out of the rock over 2600 years ago. Drive to Machaneh Yehuda, Jerusalem’s open-air market, for lunch on own. Visit the Yad Vashem Holocaust Museum and Memorial. Visit the Israel Museum including the Shrine of the Book, housing some of the Dead Sea scrolls found in Qumran; then see the famous Second Temple model of the city of Jerusalem. Dinner on own in downtown Jerusalem. Opportunity to go on night tour of Western Wall tunnel. Overnight: Jerusalem

 

Thursday May 7 – Wrapping Things Up

Breakfast at hotel. Drive to Bethlehem to visit Shepherds Field and the Church of the Nativity. Continue to Valley of Elah and Tel Azekah. Return to Jerusalem for free time to explore and shop on own. Lunch on own in Old City. Return to hotel to finish packing and freshen up before trip home; late check out. Drive to Garden Tomb for tour, worship and communion service. Festive final dinner in local restaurant. Transfer to Ben Gurion Airport

 

Friday May 8 – Back in US
