Besides hikes, a number of interesting excursions have been developed for the 2017 Conference, both guided and self-guided for the days you want a break from hiking. Some of these excursions will use buses and some will visit the coast of Maine, attracting artists for hundreds of years. One such renowned American artist, Andrew Weyth, lived almost half his life on the coast of Maine.”

Andrew Wyeth was born on July 12, 1917, (on Henry David Thoreau’s 100th birthday). His 100th birthday (he died at age 91) is being commemorated with a special exhibit of his work at the Farnsworth museum in Rockland, Maine.
Maine2017 will have a bus excursion to the museum and the special Wyeth exhibit on Wednesday, August 9th. Andrew, an admirer of Thoreau, often painted Maine landscapes and walked the lands surrounding the Olson farm.
After lunch, the Farnsworth Museum excursion will stop at this National Historic Landmark, where you can get your picture taken in a field with the Olson House in the background.
