ASSBI Capacity Assessment and Guardianship Workshop in Perth








Those working in the area of medico-legal reporting or wishing to get into this field, will benefit most from this workshop

Half-day workshop which will be held in Perth and will be hosted by Ms Robyn Lieblich who is a Social Worker and Mr David Bayly who heads up Bradley Bayly's Medical Law Practice.

Ms Robyn Leiblich will include a discussion of the ethical foundation of the guardianship system; the operation of this system currently in WA and the range of less formal substitute decision-making strategies available to support vulnerable individuals.

The second session will be an interactive workshop-style presentation exploring these issues.

Mr David Bayly: It is important for practitioners treating and assessing those with traumatic brain injuries and/or with impaired capacity to understand the legal considerations involved with identifying and determining whether a person has impaired capacity to either instruct a lawyer and/or manage a large settlement sum in the eyes of the law. During this segment, David Bayly, who heads up Bradley Bayly's WA Medical Law Practice, will walk you through the legal process involved in determining a claimant’s capacity and the significance of this determination in relation to an individual’s compensation claim. David will also discuss the intersection between the legal and medical aspects of the issue of capacity and what you need to know as providers to assist lawyers navigate through this process.
