Assessment Training Under the Revised Total Coliform Rule (RTCR)

Summary

Assessments designed to “find” sanitary defects are required for public water systems (PWS) that are “triggered” by the Revised Total Coliform Rule (RTCR). A Level 1 Assessment is a self-assessment (source to tap) and can be conducted by the PWS personnel. A Level 2 Assessment is a much more detailed, in-depth, full water system assessment that is conducted by a “qualified assessor.”

Good assessment skills are vital to finding sani-tary defects so they can be fixed ensuring PWS compliance under the RTCR and public health.

Join us as we highlight the provisions of the RTCR focusing on Level 1 & Level 2 Assessments and the required actions following an assessment trigger. We will demonstrate how to conduct assessments and complete and submit assessment forms to the Maine Drinking Water Program. In addition, we will review the typical corrective actions (“fix”) for a variety of sanitary defects.
