The Wide Field Infrared Survey Telescope (WFIRST), expected to launch in in the mid-2020’s, is a NASA mission currently under Phase A development whose primary goals are to study the nature of dark energy, detect and characterize exoplanets, and have a robust guest observing program. With an advanced coronagraph and an optical-NIR imaging field of view over 100 times larger than that of the Hubble Space Telescope, WFIRST will be a powerful tool for discovery and exploration across a broad range of astrophysics.
In this workshop, we will explore the “big questions” in astrophysics that will be addressed by WFIRST over the lifetime of the mission. Many of these questions are bigger than any one mission, and the workshop will therefore bring together experts from a variety of backgrounds to discuss the scientific synergies between WFIRST and the other major astronomical facilities of the next decade and explore the power of multi-wavelength, multi-domain studies.
We encourage all those wishing to participate in the Astronomy in the 2020s: Synergies with WFIRST Workshop to submit an abstract for a talk or a poster. Talk abstracts and poster abstracts should be submitted for consideration on the Abstract Submission Form: (https://goo.gl/forms/wTHRSxbgLlYQlpOt1). The abstract submission period is open and closes on April 1st. You will be notified on or about May 1st if your abstract has been accepted for presentation. If the workshop is over-subscribed, some preference for admission will be given to those who have submitted an abstract.
