Crime Prevention through Environmental Design (CPTED) has as its basic premise that the proper design and effective use of the physical environment can lead to a reduction in the incidence and fear of crime, thereby improving the quality of life. Basic CPTED training covers lighting, site plans, planning, zoning, report writing, barriers, human behavior, and landscaping. These 2-days of training will complete the Basic CPTED requirement and will consist of a site visit (bring a lap top and digital camera for the site assessments) and exam.
Prerequisite: The first three days of Basic CPTED are required in order to take day four and five. They could have been taken at the SMUD facility or elsewhere. Proof of attending the first twenty-four hours (days 1-3) will be requested upon registering.
